Did you bring those glasses with you
Enjoy
This is above my bed tonight. We reminisced about our last trip here and visits to Delegates, Mission, Church Road, Te Mata and Esk Valley

No- they're my friends glasses . I drank out of a red wine glass (not in picture).
Cheeky young thing aren't you
You now know what he needs for Christmas !!

and it was very good.. maybe even the top rating after that on the (patent pending) JohnM scale!

Anyone going to Napa just has to go to Corison wines Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley - Corison Winery. By appointment tastings. Some of most amazing Cabernets I've ever drunk. Simple stunning.JohnM I saw you are planning to get to Arizona. Can you test that Napa sourced Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon and put it on your scale. I thought it was hauntingly good.
Tried the Ruinart R for the first time last night (thanks to the advice from the Advice on Champagne thread on AFF) and it was very good.. maybe even the top rating after that on the (patent pending) JohnM scale! I compared it to some Bolly (my old favourite) and I have to say I preferred the Ruinart... A better bead, more complex and a cleaner finish.. The Bolly was a bit sweet in comparison.. But never fear Bolly... With your sweetness I still think you are the best champagne for breakfast... Might need to have a glass and remind myself now

The Ruinart Blanc de Blanc is also very good. But beware the clear bottle which makes it prone to being lightstruck. Only buy if it's sure to have remained in the box.
In his 2014-2015 Champagne Guide, when Tyson Steltzer tasted it at Ruinart the first bottle opened was lightstruck because it had been left in an office for a few days! One has to wonder why they use a clear bottle .
I'm not a fan of Blanc de blanc in general...A good point MrM.. but for Bcat.. Just be aware.. I am rating the Ruinart R, not the Blanc de Blanc... Ruinart R is in a dark bottle... the BdB is in a clear.
Personally I am not a fan of the BdB..
The 2012 Rifle Range is brilliant IMHO.
Normally I've got an 8 year rule when it comes to Reds.
That a VM purchase? I figure I wouldn't touch me first one for at least another three years.
Basket Press only for me from this place. Been disappointed far too frequently with their lesser range of wines.
Over in NZ (AKL) with good friends
The red wine for tonight (for the men)

Bought for our friends to say thanks for having us tonight:

Paired with roast pork, cracking and vegetables
Is the Rifle Range in the same bottle as the BP?
The serious collectors amongst us must end up with a fair bit of unwanted wine in their cellars that gets purchased for a number of vintages before discovering how disappointed they are with it. It makes sense to me that at least one of them gets sampled earlier than 3 or 8 years from purchase?
