Thanks JohnM, I actually made 6 savoury and one dessert pizza today with only one a flop - I'm just starting to learn how to make pizza - the Pompeii oven has taken me* 9 months to get this far, brick by brick and today was the first day I have been able to crank it up to pizza temps - last weekend was roast lamb and veggies

*my youngest daughter has spent over a hundred hours helping me - it has been really nice :mrgreen:

Yes home made pizza and wood fired oven - I only sat the wine their for 15 seconds or less for a photo - it was way too hot to leave there

Looks like dough has been pulled and stretched. Pretty authentic.

It's been an absolute b*gg*r of a week for both mrs c and I - me with a virus that flattened me in the earlier part of the week and Mrs C having to write the second condolence letter in a week when two members of staff passed away whilst at work. Sushi Chef take-away provided the dinner (sushi/sashimi mix platter #41) and I found a couple of bottles of something bubbly in the fridge.

September Vogue arrived today for Sue and some Kasugi peas for me complete the evening.

We had sad news of our friend and family doctor's passing away. He'll be sorely missed. Signed online condolence.

I did give Chef extraordinaire Blackcat20 a bottle of Taswegian Pinot Noir also, but that was a gift, so she is saving it for another time. (Steady and drron may be able to guess which one).

Thoughts on the Ayala?

I'm still undecided on it. Its quite drinkable, pleasant enough, but I'd not rush out of my way to buy another bottle; there are other champagnes I would choose first.

The 1996 Botrytis Tokay was a good find. Turned up in a box of wines in my grandma's spare room, so not stored well. The wax seal must've done the job as it was phenomenal.

Gotta be happy with that find, I had a staff member telling me she had a heap of port that her late husband didn't get to drink that she was going to drop into me - I'm hoping for 1 gold nugget

Not sure. Mine was a gift. I suspect the answer depends. If you have an expensive old bottle of wine, this is the device to get that cork open. So in that case, yes. Opening a $10 cheap Frenchie, probably not. Horses for courses really on this.

Road tested my new Zalto Burgundy glasses with a bottle of 2013 Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir while watching West Coast demolish St Kilda. Happy all round with the glassware, wine and result
