Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Had dinner at Gaucho's in Adelaide last night, and the food was absolutely sensational.

Oysters washed down with a glass of Perrier Jouet NV.
Steak washed down with a bottle of 2013 Achaval Ferrer Malbec. Decanted and it really opened up over the course of the bottle evaporating.

Fantastic meal.

No photos because I am a bad "foodie".

I still stand by Gauchos being the best place for steak in this country. Immensely jealous :)

First glass of wine this week. As I still recover from the norovirus and a short stint in the RNS Hospital. Slightly bored (you can never get too bored on the ED with all the goings on!), and waiting for the all-clear, TheRealTMA and I are messaging. He advises me to have a good glass of Red and some meaningful rest. Great advice!

So here's goes, as I slob on the couch this fine Friday evening:

Bicknell FC Pinot Noir Gippsland 2013

On Cellar Tracker (with a shortened note on Vivino), I posted the following tasting note:

"A perfumed and peppery 93+/100 (3.9/5.0) from me. This Pinot hails from the steep, close planted Lucinda Estate, Gippsland and a warm 2013 vintage, where 150 dozen were made. Halliday gave it 97 noting "a rose garden with a profusion of red fruits, silky tannins and all the length of a great Pinot".

The nose, it's best feature, has rose petals, cranberries, red currants, strawberries and cream and white pepper. The light and pure palate follows, with a warm peppery lift and slight fizz mid-palate, leaving cranberries, cream and pepper lingering delicately afterwards.

At $39 from MyCellars.com.au and Cellar Door (both sold out), it's probably fair for a JH 97 point Pinot. Much better than my first bottle 4 months ago, but not one I am going to add to the illustrious wish list."

So did it work? Yes!

I am feeling much better. Especially after many puncture wounds, tests and fluids taken, and after two glasses of this nice Pinot. I just need a restful weekend now. Am I going to get it with a young family? Probably not! But there's always the quiet of my desk on Monday ...!

Happy weekend all.
get well soon....man o man, with the floral description of the pinot I thought that the intravenous infusions you got were full of hallucinogens , psychotropics and something called lysergic acid di-ethylamide and it was still running through those veins turning you into a hippy wozza......grow the dreadlocks next woz.....seriously, get healthy.

Turkey Flat 2004 Shiraz - A bit dusty on opening, cork, dark and inky with slight bricking..softened up after an hour, blackberry and plum fruit prodominent, surprisingly more elegant than brutish at the 15% with the oak nicely integrated... towards the end of its window before hitting it's secondary phase...drink now.

As a friend says "Saturday night Italians": very nice one from Montalcino. Nicely mellow after hour decant. Quite spicy tannins on after taste so long finish. Not a lot of fruit evident but Sangiovese is like that.

A couple bottles for the weekend: Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 2010 and the Katnook Odyssey Shiraz 2006:

The Stonewell was a cracker - great fruits and tannins, and will improve over time. The Odyssey, whilst nice, didn't quite seem in the same league - a bit too restrained perhaps, and quite drying on the palate. Still it's very nice, just not as nice.

No. I do it all the time. I did this with the Brunello photo above on my iPad. Just edit in photos.

I will do some experimenting

Thanks TheRealTMA - I have learnt something new

An innocent start with Voyager Estate Shiraz 2004....really lovely wine but as with the occasional blindy, got dwarfed..
1989 St Henri Claret....wow...galloping along..classy and elegant ....What's in the look cellar...pick a year..2000
Grant Burge Meschach.......double wow...an average year but I'm an absolute fan of the Meshach .......epitome of first class "all Barossan" ..... back to the quaffers for a while...

Tonight is Vanya time. Have Veuve for starters.

How was it?

Wines like that scare me a bit - the recommended aging means I'll be 700 years old before "optimum drinking". I guess that's where aerators and decanters can help.

Penegal I still think 707, Silver Oak and Diana suit my taste buds better. By the way at 66 I don't think I can wait a few hundred years. I heard the bell ringing so it is now time for travel and better wines.

Yeah - you can also get 4-5 bottles of Dianna for 1 bottle of Vanya, so there is a value for money question too.

So that's what I could hear ringing in my (note older ;)) ears, Cove :p.
