A bit exxy, but respectable names on the list.

Mr P - it makes the SYD Offline Cab Dinner After Party Drinks look a veritable BARGAIN!! We duly despatched the Run Rig 06, the Elderton Command 06, the Yangarra Ironheart 12 and the Standish The Standish 06. I should set up a restaurant (he says tongue in cheek)!

Must say the Elderton is one of my all-time faves (searching for the <3 smiley)

Going to cook for us then, Wozz? :p

haha, yeah - the markup was a bit high. At least my Steak was good. It would want to be for $63, sides extra.

Thankfully I wasn't paying :cool::cool:

So as this is the "nice wines I have drunk recently" thread - what did you end up having

Family enjoyed a couple of bottles of this to celebrate a birthday and wash down a lovely Italian meal at Ciao Cielo last night:

Tonight opened the Katnook Odyssey Cab Sauv 1999 because, Thursday. :) Actually, it's Coonawarra Cab tasting tomorrow, so thought we'd get training. This is blackcurrent, plums, aniseed, with leather, earth and some spice on the end. Slightly dusty tannins. I rate it a bit less than the recently had 2001. Going to give this a 91.

End of the weekend, had the Te Mata Bullnose Syrah 2014:

Deep red colour. Floral and spice aromas. Plums and blueberries on the palate. Smooth/fine tannins. Almost Pinot-eque in some ways. Nice. 92 on CT from me.

In between:
Castagna Genesis Syrah 2009. Bolder fruit, with an almost sweet tang, compared to the 2010 I reviewed before. Still with plenty of spice to follow on the palate. Typical floral aromas from the voignier.

- oops wrong photo - need to find the right one :)

Also:
- Elderton Ashmead Cab Sauv 2007: I thought this bottle a smidge nicer than the first one I had. Plums flavours rather than cassis dominant. Tannins are like previous bottle - smooth and fine. More spice flavour on the finish than previous. 90 on CT
- Maverick Twins GSM 2014: still as peppery as ever :)

Just pulled a Pepperjack Certified Cab Shiraz 2013 tonight comparing to the Maverick Twins Cabernet Blend 2013 I had last night - a couple of cab blends. One being a cheap f*ck I got for less than $8 per bottle, the other being ~$25 per bottle.

I chose the comparison after a recent post by someone that the PJ surprised at a recent blind tasting.

Result - Maverick Twins Cab Blend 2013. Missus concurs. Has a different level of smoothness and complexity to the PJ. Wish I had bought more.

I bought a case of the Twins cab blend recently, I always gauge on how much I like a wine based on one test, it goes like this..."****, how do I only have two bottle of this left...is someone stealing wine from me...what happened...wait...I bought 12 bottles of this...where did it go...did I scoff all this...must be good...all good I'll buy another case tomorrow"

The Twins cab blend passed this test with flying colours, and now I can't find it for the same price point.

Pepperjack used to be the wine you took out to a restaurant about one point five decades ago showing folks that you were not a complete tight a@#$ but you knew a little about the red stuff. It used to be reasonably honest but as the palate gets more sophisticated tastes change. I don't think I have had since then, but last Christmas day, someone pulled out a 2014 Pepperjack Shiraz. It was really good as I was seriously surprised. We drank it on a stinker of a day, I think it was late thirtees, but it held it's own easily. I gave it a 7.3 giving marks for...wait for it, some complexity. I am not rekindling the affair with this Jack. I had a comparative tasting of the certified and the regular in store and found no enhancement in the premium priced wine.

I opened a 2010 St Hallett single vintage Shiraz tonight (a favourite quaffer of mine, purchased after sampling a later vintage in QF Dom J) while spending a bit of time on what could be described as a jigsaw puzzle. I have been rearranging the Vintec's - after an hour or so, I managed to get 150 bottles into the 120 Vintec with space for 4 more  and the small one (40 I think) is now almost empty :)

It must be time to find some more bargains....

Enjoying a 2013 Hare's Chase Ironscraper Shiraz tonight. Thanks to Wozza for the recommendation. Definitely a wine I would never have come across without this forum :)

Savoury, spicy, meaty, fruity, lengthy, delicious!

Happy to have a few more to watch develop with a bit more time. Still cropping up on langton's for around $20pb for those interested.
