Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Had this over the weekend. Could of finished it in 2 days it was so good...but made it last 3 to stretch the budget.
8.5/10 - not as sweet as the FRASER GALLOP ESTATE Parterre 2013 . Out of the 2 , my taste buds prefer the Parterre .

Been a couple of weeks so the crew had a pizza bash to watch the rugby....turned into another.....well you know by now:oops:
Some fabulous wines on offer.

We were all looking forward to the 78 Grange thanks to ol'mate celebrating the sale of his business. It didn't disappoint! Still years of life left, massive fruit a bit tight on opening but flourished after an hour. We revisited this at the end of the evening but had faded a tad.

The 90 Pyrus Magnum was magnificent, pure class.
The Wendouree 2006 Cabernet Malbec (my offering) again very tight and the tannins are still huge.Excellent but needs a bucket of time.
Cape Mentelle 2005 and St Peters 2003 drinking superbly and easily picked blind for region.
The surprise for the night was a 50 year old port of uncertain origin....wotn for all....amazing and bold....delish, this was followed by a John Gehrig Port 2001, a survivor of the 2011 floods as the bottle shows. Great night.....pretty ordinary Sunday:)

This saluted the judge admirably on the weekend. Good news is that I'm going back to Rockford in a few days; bad news is 1) I've already had 5 of my allocation of 3 SVS for this year, and 2) they aren't making it any more :( :( (Not to mention that they've bloody sold out of Basket Case and Black Shiraz again .. )

Another great mof_ wine from the halcyon 2015 days that I'll be enjoying this week:

the Hewitson The Mother Vine Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013

It's developing nicely with bottle age. And will continue to improve over the coming 3-7 years:

2013 Hewitson Shiraz The Mother Vine, Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley - CellarTracker

"I really like this Barossa Shiraz. Halliday proclaimed a great wine (giving 96) among the thousands he tried in 2015 (poor bugger)!

There's great providence (see my previous note). And fine balance. There's a seductiveness and real energy about this med-bodied wine. As bright, ripe blackberry, red cherry & raspberry flavours lead to smokey, meaty, pencily, French herby notes. And this gorgeous tobacco, liquorice & pepper finish. It's certainly getting better. And will continue to evolve.

A Wozza 94.5/100 (4.1) from me."

Try again in 2 years time.

We picked up th 2007 at cellar door the other week, it drinks beautifully.

Is that a real signature on the label, or it that part of the labeling that they have put on an electronic signature on the bottles?

You should choose your friends more carefully.

Hmmm ... there are more friends about this weekend.

On the other hand, I picked up a box of Rockford goodies today that steady had been minding for me ... I'd forgotten what was in there. Oh, nice!

I can only imagine the wines you remember if you can forget about that lot ;)

Pinot for me tonight- 14 months since my last one of these and they are coming along nicely. More savoury then when I last tried it - nothing out of place. I'm glad I have more put away

Loving the Tolpuddle i have been rewarded since being put onto this one. On the way to HKG I was rewarded with the Woodlands 'Margaret' from Bne which is always lovely.
