Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

How were the Torbreck and the Copper Trail Shiraz drinking?

The Torbreck 2008 was berried, spicy with powdery tannins. Elegant despite the rich fruit. More Syrah in style than the voluptuous Coppertrail 2005. Both good now with easily another 5+ year drinking window if stored well. An 02 CT I had recently was just at it's peak IMHO.

Last Tuesday of the month's blind wine tasting. Bracket 1.

A clean steely Riesling, a toasty aged Semillon and an impeccably oaked Chardy.

Bracket 2.

The Shingleback had serious volume! The sparkler was very smooth (and no mint which I often associate with Clare shiraz).
And with dinner

The 2006 Brown Hill Cab was surprisingly generous from a much maligned WA vintage. The Signature, pure Aussie gold!

A big thanks to Buzz for introducing Pindarie wines to me on a Rockford tour. I'm loving this Shiraz and am also a big fan of their Cabernet and Riesling
Balanced fruit, acid and tannin with a medium to long finish

A number of cases arrived this week from our May trip to Italy. :)

Pretty exciting I bet.
How did you go re duty etc?
Wondering how does $70/btl for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2013 (http://www.vinoitaliano.com.au/index.php/boscarelli-vino-nobile-di-montepulciano-2013.html) compare to your final costs?

Interestingly, the customs charges I had to pay through DHL were only $125. Last time they were more than $400. No idea what the actual values etc were.

Il Nocio was €80, vino nobiles varied from €22 to €46, Merlot €13 verticals 4 half bottles in boxes were €40. Total cost of wine around $1K. They have found a new shipping company so freight costs were only some $250 in total.

Deep, dark and full of berry.
I haven't had very many Barossa Valley wines ( I tend to mostly go local with King/Yarra Valley), but if this is any indication, then I'm going back for more.
Any recommendations?

Meanwhile, here in Lisbon I purchased this in a mini mart for a mere 6.49 Euro. A very light style, easy drinking red with a short finish.

Back home and into the cellar.time to clear out some wines from the 80s.Interesting comparing 2 of the lesser Penfolds brands from 1985.Both have stood the test of time well-

The Kalimna had a darker colour and more body than the Private reserve.the reserve was probably about to start it's descent but a very smooth and enjoyable drink.I preferred it over the Kalimna which is very near it's peak so a little longer in life.Still a very pleasant tipple.

But anyways some of youse dudes will know how JohnnyK loves to but beer by the bucket full? Well last night in Corfu we bought wine by the kilogram:

Well to be truthful we actually bought half a K to test:

It wasn't the worst I have ever had so we went back for the other half to get to that magical Kilogram level.

Nicely aged Nobile to go with the pumpkin ravioli and mostada di frutta from Cremona with butter and sage sauce tonight.
