Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Took this to the AFF Brisbane Tasting Night recently. Made by ex-Rockford winemaker Trevor Jones.

And some enjoyable mid week quaffing

Interesting experience last night. We opened a good bottle of Barossa shiraz that we'd been looking forward to drinking. Immediate musty smell from the bottle. Poured a glass and the wine also had a terrible musty smell, like a really old book. Sent an email to the winery and the replied back this morning to let me know they had experienced some cork taint issues with that vintage (and had since changed corks) and would send me a replacement. Can't complain about that.

Then we popped open a Hewitson 2007 Mother Vine to enjoy instead, and that was just divine paired with my slow cooked lamb ragu (and brownies for international chocolate day).

What wine and winery? That's great customer service though.

Did it smell of wet cardboard/wet hessian? Lacking in fruit? That's definitely cork taint (TCA).

So would I! :)

But it was opened at 5 and just what we drank tonight so looks like we were both fortunate.:)

Actually, pretty impressed with it. Wasn't expecting too much but a really beautiful nose. Tannins in check, good acid and drinking well now after a couple hours in the decanter.

Starter for 10 points tonight. Followed by 2010 St Henri and lamb shanks.

Interesting Michael Hall Adelaide hills. 75% Chardonnay 25% SB, wild fermented, 10 months on lees. Nice effort, not sure it's ready yet.

The affordable white Burgundy. Actually, geat to see Aligote on the wine list. Making the most of the Crown Amex cash back dining options for lunch today.

Took this lovely Roulot Bourgogne Blanc to dinner on Saturday. Very hard to find, but definitely worth picking up if you come across. Punches miles above its weight.

The 2006 Vat 1 Sem was quite lemony and soft unlike a 2003 I recently tasted that still had searing acidity, in a good way. The 2008 Half Acre PN was surprisingly meaty. Good now but will live. The 2012 Wendouree Shiraz was extremely elegant and poised. I've never tried one less than 8 years old so was expecting it to be a "club", but no, lovely now and will no doubt develop with cellaring. The 98 Riddoch Cab was my fave. Had it with a steak. Right in the groove now. Fruit, balance, tannins. length. Powerful yet elegant. Had the 50th Anniversary 2002 Mt Ed with cheese. Big and earthy, almost tarry. Wouldn't have picked it as Clare in a blind tasting. More reminiscent of McLaren Vale, but what would I know!
