Been a few months so thought to try another tonight for Friday Night Chardonnay.

Stunning. After only a few months has increased in richness. Wonderful.

Must be an '08 sort of night

An enjoyable old style, rich Barossa Shiraz, deep dark and impenetrable in colour, dark red fruit, raspberry, tannin maybe a bit lacking but vibrant acid. A creamy mouth feel, medium body and medium plus finish. My first of these, picked up as a museum release at the CD earlier this year. In its drinking window now imo

Esteemed member Rug slipped me one of these (as well as three of the Clarry's GSM) from a later vintage and wow what a lovely big bruiser of a wine, it's certainly sold me on Greenock....

Bah! Daver6. Not 2008! Get with the strength! :) :)

I'm a modernist. Get with the times ;)

Actually a little personal story behind this wine. Was a birthday gift from a cousin of mine (here's the AFF link, a QF pilot) for my birthday 5 years ago (almost to the day). Figured it was time to drink it as a significant milestone birthday is coming up. Pretty happy with my timing. Really good wine probably drinking at the start of its peak.

Yes, all good and well, modernism began in 1870ish and you can be a DaDaist if you want, but it's still not a 2008! ComeOn! You can do better! :)

Despite misgivings from my sinuses (bloody lurgi still mildly extant) I opened a bottle of Rudderless Shiraz Maclaren Vale last night, another kind gift from Rug and one of many wines I shall be extolling on this forum in days to come. Deep, dark and still youthful, a perfect Sunday night red to settle down with, the back label shows the small but quality plantings, cheers big ears!

Surely you understand that Sunday is a Pinot night? :) :)

There has to be standards after all.
