Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Interested to hear your thoughts. Received a bottle of this as a gift recently. Hadn't planned on opening it for some years though.
Have a case. This one is lovely drinking. Nothing transcend but nice. Could take another 5 years easily but very pleasant now.

A few scraps at yesterday's 5 hour lunch with my elder son. Tried to post from my phone at the time but new system spat the dummy on file size. Trying again.

Dang! Still can't get uploads (full size at least) to work. Some uploaded (slowly), others were too big. Unable to cancel and revert them to thumbnails. Will try that option in a moment.

Try again.

Dang again! It seems once I've chosen full size for pics, I can't get back to thumbnails.

Also can't see any option to cancel a post.

Time for some feedback to the New Website thread.

I found the same on both points - @samh004 is currently working on photo uploads and has a dedicated thread for testing

Sam informs me that the pic upload issue should be sorted, so trying again.

I resisted getting another bottle, which my son might ordinarily have led me to do (that's my story...), as I am chairing an all-afternoon science symposium today. Thought I'd better try to be compus... So my son had a couple of beers to finish the 1200-1700hIMG_9512.JPG IMG_9513.JPG IMG_9514.JPG IMG_9515.JPG IMG_9516.JPG IMG_9517.JPG IMG_9518.JPG epic.

Had a lovely day day on the Swan River and Sandalford Winery yesterday. Boat trip up and back with Captain Cook Cruises, a warm 24 degrees, nice wines, great company. We enjoyed a huge variety of generously poured wines, not all Sandalford, were fed good meals, and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Standout wines were the Sandalford Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Prendiville Shiraz. As a desert wine, the 2014 Sandalford Botrytis Semillon was just delicious. I'd recommend locals or anyone visiting Perth to give this cruise a go. At $169 pp it's decent value. Did this same cruise some 38 years ago and if memory serves, it was about $100 pp back then.

We were in the Swan Valley last week (with limited time away from the kids for wine tasting) and drove out to Sandalford to find it closed for a private function. Shame, as I really wanted to try the Prendiville CS. The estate looked nice!

Houghton was a bit clinical, but wow the wines were good..

Well the last week had me thinking I'd finish the vertical tasting of the Virgin Hills case of 6 that I secured last year (IIRC?)

Started with the 2005 on Sunday & Monday. Decanted in glass on Sunday whilst making our dinner (so about 20 mins) of pasta with smoked salmon. Went down well and I enjoyed a second glass.

It was even better the next night and very little sedimentation in the bottle and seemingly longer o the palate. Surprised me and I was really looking forward to the next bottle.

Unfortunately, the 2003 was a disappointment. Quite a different sharper taste even after decanting and struggled to really enjoy it over the 2 nights. Was a little concerned about how the next bottle would go.

Thankfully, the 2000 blew away my concerns. First of the bottles to be under cork and it was unblemished. Mellow and smooth with decanting. Back on track and finished it off last night.

Will be making home-made pizzas tonight, christening our new pizza oven and cracking the 1998 bottle. Will also have to crack the second glass with the selection of cheeses left over from my party.

That is a shame. Staff were all nice people and it's still a privately owned company. They had a special discount of 25% available for cruise travelers, even on single bottle purchases. Unfortunately I had to decline, my recent buying spree has left no available space.

Off topic ... One of the things I found interesting on the tour was their barrel room's temperature control system only kicks in at 21 degrees. I'd have thought it would be set much lower than this as this is also where their packaged bottles are kept.
