I am a personal belieiver that the whole experience is so much more than the specific drop. Just that photo shows a dedication, a seriousness, that makes the whole thing better.

On that note, I detest the screw=caps here in Australia. I know they are superior in an academic way of preserving the wine, but I still do not like them. However, though I am no expert, I have found in my visits to Australia that a wine bottle with screw cap is still palatable to me after almost 48hrs after opening. A corked one tops 24 hrs. Why is this?

The enclosure will affect the aging of the wine (screwcap will age uniformly vs. variability with cork), and you'll avoid cork issues (TCA, cork shrinkage due to lack of moisture etc.). However once opened, I'm struggling to think of any reason why a cork sealed or screw cap sealed bottle would last longer. How are you storing the wine after opening?
 
3hrs later. Cullen was good, but far from trancedent. The Conterno Barolo on the other hand, with 3 hrs breathing, is exceptional - mild mushroom flavours, brilliant softened tannins, wonderful gunsmoke nose. Just brilliant example of a nice medium aged Barolo. I asked permission to say "ah this Barolo reminds me of the fabulous young woman I married 39 years ago", and the answer was "if you want to post that then that's ok with me, and your doing the washing up, plus 'And I'm still here!"

Time for dinner and watching "A street cat called Bob".

I thought that about the Cullen when I drank it a few years ago (it was a 40th birthday present). The likes of Leeuwin Estate Art Series and Bannockburn are better in my opinion.
 
I'm not familiar with the cellaring potential of the wine. I found the Pinot absolutely delicious. Drink them now and enjoy them.
The cellaring has purely been accidental to be honest...shoved in the back of a cupboard at the old place, now sitting in the wine cabinet...the curse of too much wine and an addiction to buying more.
Will crack one open tonight :)
 
Got these on a whim while ordering Quintet as they were reasonably priced for a Mt Mary wine (albeit under a different label). The red is very easy drinking, light fruit forward style with a good finish. The white was quite interesting as I couldn’t remember drinking a marsanne/rousanne combination and the best way I can describe it is a cross between a wooded chardonnay and a sauv blanc. Quite floral and initial it’s deceptive due to the hint of a buttery full mouth feel but then the acidity kicks in which lingers long afterwards. Both would be pair quite well with food or just good conversation (the latter is how I enjoyed them).

MrsDaver6 is making some sort of baked fish with ginger, coriander and chilli. Given this turned up a couple of weeks ago from CM, figured we should crack the first of six. Stupidly I put it in the fridge. Should just have left at cellar temperature as the nose is closed down. Quick decant and warmed a little in the glass. Absolute classic aged Vouvray. You simply would not guess this is almost a 30 year old wine. This will last forever. Plenty of fresh fruits and lively acidity. A touch of residual sugar but finishes dry and long. Best of all, only 11% ABV.
