Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

a Margaret River pinot?is it worth chasing down for?

It was different. Also keeping in mind it isn't ready for release and would need a decent amount of air time. Had some brett which you'd expect to settle. If you're open minded its certainly with chasing down.

Tasted these just about over 4 hours at a bbq lunch, I opened all this morning and let it breath for 6 hours in the bottle but still not quite ready to drink, we waited until 2:00pm to start.

The 4 acres shows a lot of perfume on the nose, light like Pinot , red fruits with a little vanilla going down ,the 2018 is a little different ,not as light as 2017 and bitore earthy ,both still too young.

The old patch is a favourite to James suckling, more noticeable oak , dark fruit, more purplish on the colour than the 4 acres. 2018 is a better vintage than 2017 but in terms of the quality I really can’t tell the difference. And this is the first time I’ve tried these wines.

Will keep an eye out for these, Margaret river always surprises me,had a gsm blend few years ago and it was really good, not a region that is known by gsm blends.

MR is not the region I’ll be expecting to find an outstanding Shiraz but this drop I got through DM secret selections is exactly that. Glad I got some more as it will most likely improve further down the track.

The producer has a problem, even tho they make fine wine well worthy of its RRP I wonder how many people will pay $80 for MR Shiraz... As a result they must discount it heavily and we get to enjoy this quality red at good value.

Totally Henschke. Tasting & lunch at the winery.

Tasting (I wish i had a decanter just for Hill of Grace) - there were a couple of whites as well. Most seemed to like the Mt Edelstone best out of this lot.

The lunch collection - a pair of each wine with each course, 13 years age difference in each case (yes, that is a magnum of Hill of Grace :) )

Right now in San Cristobal De Las Casas, Mexico. It’s here:

I had a hankering for a steak tonight and it turns out this town has a big Argentino presence.

So, this with a slab of bife de chorizo at the Argy parilla in this very buzzy and hip place:

I thought it was an interesting, maybe unique, expression of Valle de Ucco Malbec. More spicy and a little lighter-bodied than my previous experiences. I think it would confuse the Argy Malbec cognoscenti. Nice enough, and very good with the steak, but not a favorite.

I’ll soldier on...
