Tonight, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
When in Mexico, drink Mexican wine. This was from Valle De Guadalupe which is in NE Mexico - ie. the N end of Baja California. For such a dry and low latitude region, it produces good wine.
Phwoar, it brings back some good memories! About 15 years ago I had been at a conference in San Diego, after which I stuck around for the following weekend and a Canadian friend flew down and we had a very nice time that included,
inter alia, some wine-tasting in the Valle De Guadalupe
.
This was very nice. Smooth as silk and juicy. The blend intrigued me, so that’s partly why I chose it - although the description on the wine list (in an excellent interactive iPad app) indicated Zinfandel in the mix, but not according to the label.
Moderate ABV from such a region indicates class wine-making.
