Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I have always loved red wine, but now, suddenly, am taking a keener interest in learning....

A great place I have found to further my knowledge is the near-by Dan Murphy's. The local Dans has a wine specialist who is specifically employed to assist customers with all their desires and questions. The other day while I "happened" to be in there, I saw a young lady asking for a certain wine...

She was clearly not comfortable or familiar with a bottle shop, nor wines in general. She wanted to buy a wine for a friend. She asked for a "cab sav". When explained that this whole aisle was purely cab savs, and asked which one she was looking for, she proudly proclaimed that it was the "red" cab sav she was looking for. I almost cried ..... :)

She was great - a nice person simply trying to do something nicer. But I really love the concept of that naivety. Todays world has allowed us all to access an almost unimaginable reality of good choices - there are very few truly bad wines out there these days.

I heard that the average Dans holds about 3 to 4 thousand items in stock at any point in the physical shops - bump that up to around 6 thousand online.

Let me see if my maths does it....

6,000 products. At one a day this would take me almost 17 years to try a new tipple each day :)

And by then they will have introduced a plethora of new things.

The explosion of new red wines, of craft beers, of gins!!! There is only one way to deal with this, IMHO - try many new things, and when you find something you love, buy it, keep buying it, but also keep exploring :)

After a short trip to hong kong, great food and wine, now back to normal life!
while still waiting for the slow decanting best bin 0, rosehill and meerea park, we started with the Yering pinot, good entry pinot, sweet red fruits, good oak and medium finish,drink up.
pennys hill black shiraz, sweet dark fruits,oak, just entering the second phase,good price at $20.
keith tulloch , i don't mind the blends but not as exciting as other regions, doesn't taste like a hunter red.
The little gem shiraz shows better fruit , more power but also more jammy, both of these can go for another 8 years before drinking but not my type of
Meerea park Alexander Munro Shiraz. screwcap, this is not the aged release, the fruit is still young, spicy and earthy, strong acidity, but also noticeable oak, very long finish. but the wine of the night goes to....
Mount pleasant rosehill, this is at its perk, sweet red fruit,creamy oak,leather and earth, this wine only cost $20? i wish i bought a dozen.

Forgot about the bin 0, dark fruits,pepper/dusty maybe still not open up yet, come back in an hour on the glass, sweet plum , good acidity and oak, the only thing sets apart from the rosehill is the pepper and spices, the rosehill is more clean.

this is one of those early vino mof_ days offer, can’t remember how much exactly but don’t think this is expensive,I bought a dozen.

sweet dark fruits, berries, good amount of oak , a medium finish ,Alc. 14.5% but it burns. It is still powerful and young, this could be one of the biggest surprise for me from the vino mof_s.
 
The Strangebrew turned out to be interesting. It was a funky new-age thing that had sediment in the bottle, but the bearer of the wine did not mix it before it went round the table. The first pours were clear and pale; the last dark and very cloudy. Needless to say, the comments varied widely depending on where you were on the order of pour o_O.

It was a very good tasting :).
