Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

I had my second last bottle of Wolf Blass Gold Label Shiraz when I was with friends in HBA recently. Yummy. And only one left now!

This thread is in honour of JessicaTam who encouraged me to start it.

This evening Mrs Buzzard & I enjoyed a Draytons Bellevue 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Not strictly a Hunter Cab Sav as the grapes are sourced from "....vineyards around Australia."
I only paid about $8 for this bottle as it was part of a Cellarmasters package. Given the price the wine is smooth, fruity, easy drinking and generally not offensive. Went down a treat with a medium rare T Bone off the barby.
The bottle claims to contain "8 standard drinks" but we only got 6 out of it. Feel ripped off I do. Maybe I should lower our standard :D

Hopefully other AFFers will share some wines on this thread and keep it going for a while. Maybe this will encourage us all to try something different.

Just saw Hilco APAC are holding a rare wine sale on their online auction website. I saw they had: Chateau Petrus Cru exceptionnel, Pomerol, 2006, Chateau Latour 1er cry classe, Pauillac, 2002 and Cheateau Mouton-Rothschild 1er cru classe.

Another little tasting after dinner.both of these are top quality Shiraz , the frost dodger ,vanilla red fruit perfume, earthy mineral sweet fruit the oak mix with the fruit very well and long finish . this winemaker is on Barossa but this wine is made from eden valley fruit,at $35 a bottle I’m getting another 6 pack.

The Francesca Syrah ,this wine made from a used Chardonnay cask, black fruits but not as strong, meaty, this feels like shiraz viognier but a different version , the finish is long and dry. I prefer the frost dodger more.

Nice one. I tried the Francesca recently & loved it - I'll have to seek out the Frost Dodger too by the sounds. Where abouts did you find it for $35/b?

it was from auswine when it was first release, less for 6 bottles then 10% off on the release date. now their price is back to normal, there are other places have it. but i do suggest join their newsletter, i found most of my favorite wines from there. in the mean time, frost dodger is available below at $34

Had a mini vertical yesterday 08,09,10,11,12 but only these 2 I have something to say.I’ve tried all these when it was release.

the 2010 is the most promising wine out of all, more balance, complex just layers of fruit ,it’s just more than a traditional barossa shiraz, when I first tried this it was ripe but it feels like there’s layers of fat waiting to be evolve in time.

The 2012 is a lesser wine than the 2010, dark fruits, cherries, doesn’t have the bodies, complex or the length of the 2010, I picked this over the 2009 because this is less ripe and the alcohol is not as noticeable.

Though in my cellar Yalumba and Tahbilk are mainstream wines. ;)

I probably should have clarified. Non-mainstream (ie alternative) varietal. We had agreed no Riesling, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Semillon, SB, Chenin and Pinot Gris.

Well that's OK then.
Being an old fellow Yalumba and Tahbilk were around when I first started cellaring wine in the 60s.

Theme for the tasting last night was non-mainstream whites. Tasting was done blind. Boy was this interesting and hard work. WOTN was the Olivers Tarango Fiano that I picked up from QF wine at $25/bottle and 10k points. Winning!

How did the Colpasso grillo rate? Have been trying to get this and their fiano but the local Dan Murphys is "under siege" due to the busy Christmas time with low availability.

One of the members of our little group is a DM store wine consultant. He brought those wines - and said that once on tasting at DM they sold like hot cakes. The price/taste quotient is excellent.
