Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I have had one or two wow wines by Escarpment - but most are simply nice like this one.
Just reminiscing about the first wine tasting @Wozza hosted in SYD, my first introduction to Escarpment- it was a Kupe and lead me to seeking some out

other wines I still remember are the Irvine grand Merlot @Delectable Blue and Mrs DB brought, and the D'Arenberg Wild Pixie @beefarmer brought.

A memorable night, I met AnonymousCoward, @Katy @mhen, @beefarmer @Wozza @Delectable Blue , Mrs Delectable Blue @DrSammyLee @Alzoam (I think) + others who’s name escapes me atm (maybe @TripleB ? ) and after the main event spent a few hours touching up Wozza’s special wines at his office- happy days that I wish I could wax lyrical about. There would be a thread on it and I should dig it up. Great AFF memories

Bought half dozen Sam Neil Two Paddocks and half dozen of Duncan’s Mount Edward Pinot.

The Mount Edward just blows away the Two Paddocks, surprisingly. Two Paddocks is one of my favourite CO pinots but the recent one is on the light side. Hopefully will improve over time..

Mount Edward is just lovely drinking now, will be impressive in a year or two.

A memorable night that is for sure. Bloody long way back to the hotel in Pitt street as I realized after about 30minutes of walking on the same road that the iconic harbour bridge was in fact much larger than I remembered. So feeling very safe way after midnight the long walk back was certainly memorable and more importantly safe. Why not a taxi? Next time I told Nadia. Waking up after midday had me finding a receipt from an ANZ autoteller with a withdrawal of one hundred dollars. Money in wallet thankfully, wallet in pocket, no bruises but sometimes you just don't know how things happen. Some of the pics on the night, the guilty mentioned above and what a splendid winner in the grand irvine. Wozza here looking quite the lawyer. Geez it was funny in there.

Thanks beefarmer, I just dug up and reread the two threads. Ah, memories of nice wines I’ve drunk

Just checked my Penfolds Wine club for new releases, prices are now very high. Langtons and Dan's have similar prices. Anyone @qaz ? got any special discount offers? or is it too soon.

Don’t buy Penfolds on release. Price was driven by increased export demand In the last decade, something that will be significantly reduced in 2020/21. Price will have to come down, at least on the massed produced labels.

Thanks. Yes I normally wait for a few months but just checking. Used to buy the set of 6 reds (12 389s) (stopping at 407) and it originally cost $350 when we started and now it's around $4K. :(

It's getting silly, isn't it. I don't know of anyone who collects them anymore

I "used to" leave them all for min 3 years but no more. Plus the quality dropped off a bit.

I still collect some labels, mostly 389 407 St Henry Magill Eatate and RWT but never buy at full price. I try to get them at least 40% off which is usually achievable when combining discounts with vouchers and cashback. Last time I bought at RRP was probably St Henry 2010 for $60 just after it got perfect score from JH.

Hopefully also some good CellarMasters Wynns black label CS deals come up soon too. Was Aug/Sep in previous years I think

Blue Poles “changeover“ Reserve Allouran cleanskin last night - no idea if it was a bottle with no Reserve Merlot or a small %, but doesn’t matter because it was beautiful ;)
Concentrated flavours of black currant and red fruits, silky tannins and velvety in the mouth, long finish

(A lovely day here)

I guess the only upside to Stage 4 lockdown MEL is that it gives ample opportunity to work on your drinking.

Personally I have been hard at it over last 7 days chasing a new PB - short term goal is to achieve sub 1 bott / day - it ain’t easy but no pain no gain hey? 👍
