A go-to would be the Franck Bonnville, but we slurp a fair bit of that ;), and $160 is getting a bit exxy. (I recall when it was c. $100-110 at Petition Winebar).

Just for something different, have you tried the Idee Fixe? Vasse Felix are turning the old Watershed winery into a sparkling specialty.

I tried it once last summer, and it was good, but lacking power, I recall. If SJM hasn't tried it, I may suggest another crack with oysters.

Anything on the whites & reds that hits you? Do NOT mention Jura. 😝🤬

😛

I recall you mention the Idee Fixe and your description didn't inspire me to seek it out.

So let me get this straight...you want my wine input but haven't invited me along? ;) Jura it is for you!

This makes my mouth water, but a decent mark-up Schäfer-Fröhlich Trocken 2019 | Riesling

This you know what you're getting and you know will be good if you want something with a bit of age. Howard Park Museum Release 2009 | Riesling

I've not tried this one, but Markus Altenburger ‘Vom Kalk’ 2018 | Blaufrankisch could be a good option for a red.

👍

Now get back to work you bludger!

😛😛

OK, we’re making progress. 😋

The Idee Fixe was much better than I recall. Som says it was released a tad early. Now more complex and nice and citrussy. Good with oysters.

We’re now on the 2009 HP Riesling. 😋

Bloody kids these days busy on their phones instead of being present in the moment :p

Just some pics from yesterday.

As mentioned, the Idee Fixe was much better than I recalled. It clearly needed some bottle age. I’d recommend giving it a crack. Great with oysters.

No pic of the Howard Park riesling,

The Rioja was delicious.

Love these wines (and the labels).

The 100% Grenache feels like a lighter and simpler version of MVG.
The blend is slightly darker and has bit more oomph due added Mourvèdre.

Made to drink young with food or solo, doesn’t matter, they are both delicious!

And don't drink it too cold.

My problem was the opposite. Decanting whites often makes them too warm, especially in summer (we like fresh air, less aircon). The solution I found is low decanter that fits in the fridge.

That's a general problem in our climate. I do similar. I tend to keep moving in and out of the fridge to dry get the right temp. It's also why I'm a big advocate of such whites in winter. They don't get too warm :)
