Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I also took with me what I thought was a bottle of Krug only to discover it wasn’t quite what I was expecting when I opened the pack:

Turns out some lowdown dodgy shady sniveling alleged smart rrrsed friend had ‘gifted’ me the bott Krug 12mths ago.

In true AFF fashion I will not ‘out’ this dude - suffice to say his name starts with the letters boomy!!! 👍

That member really should have used a felt pen to write Krug on the label, or printed off some labels like another AFF member did for some cleanskins…… - few would realise…… this bottle would pair well with the Bailey & Bailey’s in your previous post ;)

I know this wine is highly regarded, but I'm not quite sure I really get it. It's not a bad wine and enjoyable but I don't get what all the fuss is about.

I am with you. It is a decent wine and excellent value at ~$16 per bottle from TWE but I’m my view it’s not really in the same league as the St Peters or the Beats Bin 0.

Presumably the quality for the price? Haven't tasted it myself. Is there that much of a fuss about it? Besides tWF, doesn't seem to rate that highly?

The calling card for Chalambar is that you get the plumpness of the Heathcote Fruit as well as the spicy/fragrant grampians fruit and they can stand up to aging.

I think they hit their price point well and like that they dont rely on heavy american oak.

That all being said, they are not going to stand up to more premium shiraz

I didn't actually realise how little I paid for the wine until I checked off on a CellarTracker. At the price point, it is great value for money. The consensus rating on CT was ~91. CT ratings are on the real (not inflated wine writer's) scores and tend to align with what I think. So I think my expectations were also just set a little high and I hadn't really considered the price point enough. Certainly a solid wine, good value for money but doesn't hold too much interest for my palate these days.
