Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

This is very very interesting. Cabernet Sauvignon and Sumoll Cross.

Tyrian, one of four different crossbreeds of cabernet sauvignon and the Spanish sumoll variety developed by the CSIRO Plant Industry Division especially for Australian conditions, is a variety that has particularly captured Peter's interest.

Thinking of 4-5 days in the Hunter Valley mid May. Been 20+ years since last visit. Looking for recommendations for wineries and dinners. Probably staying at Chateau Elan or Spicers.
Just saw your post, so I'm not sure if I'm not too late. MrsK and I did or first trip to the Hunter in March, and checked out the small operations, and we were very impressed. We thought it might be a bit touristy but were pleasantly surprised.
Highlights were:
- Tranquil Vale (there's an airstrip next door where you can do flights in a Tiger Moth
- Tinklers
- Allandale
- Capercaillie
- Petersons

Lunch spots
- The Deck Cafe Lovedale
- Ben Ean

Cheers
K

Petersons have some great wines. The shiraz is very fruit forward and morish.

Certainly not oxidised. I have been cellaring selected whites since 1970. I remember the first very well. A Tullochs 1970 semillion. In 1991 they re released it as a museum wine.
The reisling was definitely better than the chardonnay but the chardy still drank well.
I'm also a big fan of aged whites. Besides the Semillions and Rieslings, there's Victorian Marsannes, especially Tahbilk.

Tasting theme last night was any WA sparkling wine. On the whole, there is a reason WA isn't known for sparkling wine. Stand out producers were Howard Park and Vasse Felix. The 2015 HP Jete Grand Vintage was WOTN. The Mann had great potential and suspect would have been up there but was corked unfortunately.
