Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Nice accompaniment to Christmas roast duck. The usual cork drama but 3 more bottles in the cellar and probably shouldn’t let them go to much longer.

Last Christmas it was the ‘94. Alas, that was the last bottle of that.

So we were cleaning out my late brother’s place and came to his wine. My sisters didn’t want this horrible old stuff, covered in an inch of dust, so I took custody of it. Probably going to be opened for a Christmas toast to him.

It would have been kept in a cool position and relatively un disturbed for most of its life. Contents look pretty full.

Any opinions on what it may be like? (offers to sample to assist opinion will be politely declined 😊)

1977 Grange was opened for Christmas lunch and it was great! I dare say those with a more educated palate than me would find some fault with it, and I think it was somewhere past its best, but eminently drinkable and we toasted my late brother with it many times over 🍷

Apparently it had been re-corked and topped up, maybe 15 years ago.

The cork

Great to hear that it was in good nick. 1977 was certainly a lesser vintage so great outcome!

Speculative Chrissie drinks auction win, all probably 30 - 40 years old?
Pasha Coffee liqueur (bought for the bottles as much as anything) is a winner! Relieved not to see a Bailey's like dairy product. If the coffee flavour has waned then it would have blown my head off when young.😲
Danziger Gold Wasser is brilliant, almost butterscotch with herbal overtones.
Looking forward to a cheque from SA Water for my more valuable contributions. 🤑💩
My non drinking friend loves them both, amazing!
Yet to try the Millefiori ... tempted but a bit early😇

A much needed tipple with leftovers after a hard day waxing skis and doing home maintenance….

A nice drop showing beautiful red fruit but not sure it’s worth the hype. I have some more to go so will see how they are over the next few years…

It’s that time of year isn’t it…. sadly this is the last of the $10 Clarendon Hills from March 2021. The flavour just leapt from the glass, heaps of alcohol.

I have a few of the Penfolds Reserve Shiraz Cab, what are they like, how are they drinking?

I wasn’t planning on trying my first until about 2028

Drinking well now as it already has a bit of age on it but can definitely hold many years. Since you have a few maybe can open one early to see how it drinks young…
