Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Pre-empting my evening, I have the champagne sorted but which of these reds should I open? Holiday barbecue at a friend’s house, warmish evening but not too hot….is The Lear too young at 2019? Thinking the Clarendon Hills too risky to take as it is under cork.

If your friends appreciate good wine then bring MW, the 17 drinks well young 👍

Lear is too young, I had it around Xmas and it got a lot better the next day. Is Clarendon Hill 2014? It drinks beautifully, but a fuller wine. I’d take either of Margs due to the warm weather

First time going overseas since 2019, friends and family got together for an outdoor event.

About the same amount of bottle per wine,I was told this is a Chablis, wine of the night for me, others like the Riesling more, kinda too sweet for me.

Quite dinner for Christmas,

This Riesling is way better than the one from before.

No wine on New Year’s Eve.

Beer for 2. Others ordered coughtails.food was great, we had Mexican.

Now back to normal life.

Tasting theme last night was Riesling from anywhere but Australia. Was an interesting tasting. Wines tasted blind. A bunch of us thought the Trimbach was corked. Surprised to see it under screw cap. Could not get past that wet cardboard. Something wrong there for sure. WOTN was the Carl Loewen.

Had a friends 60th birthday on Saturday night. They have an excellent wine fridge which was stocked with the good stuff:

There was 6 of us drinking the 407 and we got through 6 bottles. The walk back to my parents place where I stayed the night was hilarious (up a driveway, through and over 2 fences). Thankfully no photos which preserves my dignity.

Present given was a Penfolds RTW Shiraz 2019 - thanks DM for the member pricing (saved $20).

My father was given this bottle as a Xmas present by one of his neighbours.

My father (91) has sadly lost his olfactory system so it will be lost on him. Looks like this will be included in my parents 60th wedding anniversary celebrations and not many in my family who drink red wine.

@Daver6 (or anybody else) with knowledge that you can share about it. I know the price point but interested in tasting notes etc (gave read the ones online and in CellarTracker)

Trimbach under screw cap is indeed odd. We did an extensive tasting at their cellar door few months ago and all bottles were under cork. Maybe you had an entry level Riesling made for export to the new world 😂

I can't add anything more other than 1982 was an excellent year in Bordeaux. Stand it up for a couple of days for the sediment to settle and decant. I probably would decant and try straight away and make a judgement call on how long to leave it for. Might need 15-30 minutes.

So I took the Duval-Leroy Femme and a 2010 St Hallet Dawkins Shiraz…. neither got opened, which made me very sad.

Expand a bit kevvie - this could be interesting?
There was an open bottle of bubbles and a grant burge 5th gen shiraz when we arrived, they didn’t get finished and most of the night was spent trying different types of gin.

Dear friends came over for dinner last night. They brought this wine along with them (and a 2017 St Henri), so Mr Katie chucked together this cheese plate.

The St Henri was lovely. The Grange was fine; it had been taken to the Penfolds clinic last year, checked and re-corked. They advised to drink it very soon. There was a definite port aroma when we had our glasses. The wine was decanted for maybe 2hrs before we had any.
The cheese plate was not finished, though our puppy would have loved to polish off the uneaten cheeses.

Our friends also have a 1971, which will hopefully be in better shape for drinking when Mrs Friend wants to enjoy it (her birth year).

I'm trying to find red sparkling wine in the UK which is proving difficult. I don't drink it bIMG_8751.JPGut a friend who lived in Australia for a while loved it.

Does anyone know whether this is drinkable or not
