Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Not wishing to be mean but I have never understood the LF fuss (and price).
They used to be one of the best Chardonnays in the country. They could even cellar for many years.

The Cabernets used to be very long legged with exceptional rewards for patient.

Yeah, I have a friend who used to bring out an aged magnum of the cab every now and then act all reverential. While I like him, sadly the drinking of it was part of the cause of my hard-to-shake disdain for Hunter reds!

It was an early Hunter Valley cult wine, along with the Len Evan’s ones, which used to be by allocation only and hard to find. Now easy to buy. Interesting little winery to visit actually.

The story also goes that Cabernet shouldn’t grow as well as it does there!

I’m still on the mailing list but haven’t bought any for a while. I have a case or two in the cellar however!

Remember the old “sweaty saddle” shirazs from Tyrrells? ( due to sulfides in soils, and somewhat primitive ferments.)

LF cellar door also a very hit and miss place. My last two visits there have probably sunk my loyalty to the brand. Staff who were disinterested, and created no atmosphere to open the wallet and order. Further, over the past 2 Hunter themed tastings I have attended with friends, LF has never been able to justify its price relative to other Cabs from the region.
