Knocked this off with a steak last weekend.

Under cork and wax seal, plus a very heavy glass bottle all seem to be marketing IMO.

Classic case of inflated RRP. Was ~$120 and I picked it up in a sale for around $60 just to give it a try.

It was a nice drop, but not for the RRP. In my view it’s on par with wines I’ve had in the $45-55 range. It didn’t have any depth or complexity.

Mrs H didn’t get too excited either.

In fairness to the wine and winemaker, this was about a week after we had both had bronchitis so perhaps the senses were not back to their best.

Red wine, heavy bottle, under cork with inflated RRP often means made-for-China failed export.

I have one or two of those in my cellar. Maybe they’ll get better in a decade or so… (probably not).

When in Romania try Feteasca Neagra (Black Maiden)



Was lucky to find this nice wine at a local bar with some proper age on it.



Also Moldavian wine like the Rara Neagra (Rare Black)



I’ve also tried some local Chardonnay, Cab Sav and Shiraz wines. Most were very good and great value for money

Virgin hills claret 2001, unfortunately not around anymore but found this at auction for a bargain. Drinking amazingly well for its age. Still has bright fruit + tertiary leather/earth flavours but with good fresh acidity.

It is nice. The wines usually sell out within a few weeks of release.

Had some uni friends over this afternoon, haven’t seen a few for 30+ years….opened up the cellar. Best probably the Shadrach, although I missed the Moss Wood completely.

I’m not big Zinfandel / Primitivo drinker myself. At the beginning of covid (yes, that thing that happened many moons ago) FC reduced CM Zins from $50 to $20 so it was good opportunity to try something different

Had this the other night on a Coral Expeditions voyage on the Kimberley Coast at 'Barbecue night' on the open top deck while moored in Talbot Bay just off Horizontal Falls on a glorious warm evening.

Beautifully mellow, belying its relative youth.
