I'm a big fan of their Pinot. Actually NZ Pinots generally, Ata Rangi being my all time fave followed closely by Chard Farm and Felton Rd. Planning a NZ wine oddyssey this year for the 10th wedding anniversary combined with a stay at Huka Lodge.

Enjoyed some NZ Pinot with dinner tonight. Figured it was appropriate given we're in CHC.

hmmm, Sirromet Wines and Billy Idol ...

Well Craggy Range and Sirromet are a logical connection... And Billy.. why not.. Day on the Green is about environment not about wine... as far as I can tell (disclaimer: never been).. Sad I missed Augie March... ;):)

Tonights wine was a little bit special.Well it is Valentine's day.1984 vintage-

Rating B* good+.Not quite B* fantastic but close.
When I was young I knew a couple of fellows who could be relied upon to bring out a beautiful old wine.I wanted to be able to do that.Fantastic now that I can enjoy the effort I put into that.Obviously cellaring has been passable and I know now that my palate as a young fellow wasn't bad and I could pick wines that could age gracefully. Now they are helping me to do the same.
Wine is for enjoying.
The best wine is the wine that you like-Jay Tulloch,1990.

But are they any good?
Can't comment on the WA wines in the photo (have tried their other wines which are OK) but that part of WA does produce some very nice Pinot...Picardy is an example.. Batista also does some nice wines...

Peos is a small producer near Manjimup that I would judge OK but likely to be inconsistent because of being a small producer. Salitage is near Pemberton (and is for sale if anyone fancies getting into the wine industry.) Treehouse is their second label; I'm sure it would be OK but unlikely to be really good.

Had a very rare species in Sac, great little restaurant Tapas the World. Got one of the most amazing wine lists you'll ever see, 1998 Glaetzer" Bishop".
Needed 30 mins to open up but most enjoyable :-)

Had a wonderful Valentines Day dinner with AFF'ers Katie and Keith009 (and our respective spouses). Katie and her husband hosted, so I took wine (red, white and dessert). Keith brought Champagne, red & white.

Keith's Champagne

My contribution for Whites:

My contribution are the 3 reds on left, Keith's the 4 on the right (including the Port)

Starters - Champagne (paired with cheese platter - sorry no photo :o )

IIRC, we had the Blanc de Blanc. Not a Champagne drinker but I enjoyed the nose (fruity) and the not too dry palate. I'm sure other could wax lyrical about it...

Mains - Beef Fillet with (crispy bacon), sautéed spinach and creamed potatoes

Paired with Keith's Cab Sauv. A delightful nose of earthy dark berries, very smooth across the palate and a great accompaniment.

Dessert: Deconstructed Pavlova (a la QF First Lounge).

We had no idea this was the inspiration she had teased us with during our conversations yesterday. Instantly transported back to my FLounge experiences with this dessert. Katie did an amazing job - Lime gelato, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cream, passionfruit pulp, a meringue and pashmak.

Needless to say, that floored me and we all talked until our waiting chariot looked decidedly keen to turn into a pumpkin.

Can't wait for a repeat effort but I fear Katie and her husband have seriously better talent in the kitchen than me.

Our only failure of the night - the cork failed in the dessert wine (Xanadu 1994). Nothing a fine tea strainer couldn't fix (as we didn't have anything else with which to work).

Apricot and marmalade nose and just starting thinning. Alcohol was reduced but still an excellent drink. My last one from my dessert wine collection.
