Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

With lamb shanks. Drinking very well. Loverly Bordeaux blend with integrated fruit, soft tannins and excellent depth.

A perfect wine for a warm spring afternoon with a friend.
Accompanied by BBQ chorizo, roaring forties blue cheese etc, this low alcohol spicey Rex went down a treat.

Had this one last night. Unfortunately so did the carpet :mad:
A big gutsy Barossan but a bit young I think. Will come back to the other 5 in a few years at which time I'll be duly rewarded. Hopefully the carpet won't want any more.

My carpet enjoyed some Wolf Blass Single Vineyard a few months back...we now have a rug in the lounge room....

You'll probably be saying that (very tannic) even if it was 20 years old! That's Barolo for you.

If you can restrain yourself, keep a glass out and try again in 24 hours. Might just be surprised :)

Superb drinking. Just opened. Need an hour or more to breathe. Sill very tannic, great depth.

Oh Yes I understand Barolos. Thanks. Was fab after three hours. Never any left for the next day, then again have several more bottles;)

if you haven't yet seen it, do take a look at The Barolo Boys movie ( previous post) on the development of Le Lange wine makers and tradition and the Elio Altare and mates revolution.

The other day I mentioned that I'd had a bottle of red, saperavi grapes, from Georgia. It was OK.

Tonight, a second bottle of saperavi,from the same wine maker (or distributer?) Tbilvino. This is tonight's.

Didn't like it. Musty nose, flat palate. Going in tomorrow's spag bol.

Interestingly, the first saperavi was described as "red medium sweet wine" . Tonight's saperavi, from the same district is described as "red dry wine".

I think I'll hold off now until I try some stuff in situ.

Anyone had the grape/wine from an Aussie producer? I see its grown in the Yarra Valley, at least.
 
Point taken, but being a miserly old curmudgeon, I'm unwilling to tip net $20 down the sink. Its not as if it was undrinkable .. I just chose not to continue drinking it :)

Didn't know you were one of my old friends? Many of them will not throw away a bottle they bought 30 years ago for $1.50 and have stored under their beds, even though it's dark brown and smelling like port and vinegar.:)
