what sort of cheese are these?i have only tried double brie and nuts to pair with wine,one time my friend bought a cheese platter from coles/woolies and i didn't enjoy them with wine.

It was a mix of Swiss Gruyere, Italian Taleggio, French Livarot and some other veriaties which I can’t remember.

Coles/Woolies have some interesting selection in their speciality cheese section but for the good stuff my go to in Australia is Simon Johnson.
 
Thanks boomy, just browse through their website, reminds me a place in the city that sells foie gras over 10-15 years ago. Will check that out.

Pegasus Bay is a favourite (NZ) pinot noir, and fortunately unlike the 1997 Polish Hill last time, the Watervale wasn't literally a smash-hit (or should that be hit-smash :():

Dexter - perhaps my favourite Mornington chardonnay
Lino Ramble Gomas - my grenache first-love
Rochford Dans les Bois - along with Bay of Fires and Hoddles Creek, my favourite budget 2017 pinots so far

Easy drinking,not for keeping.Will have some amusement with friends when they try to identify the wine.
But I liked it.
 
Back Story: I do 2-3 trips a year to the UK for management meetings as the token Aussie (although on the most recent trip I commented you can never have too many Aussies until you get one - which was met with universal agreement). Instead of staying at the corporate hotels I've built up a network of local pubs near the office, which is north of Didcot. On the past couple of trips we've had good discussions about wines from England, as well as France, Spain etc. And I've been asked, what about Australia. The problem we face over there is that Fosters is on tap at many pubs, Jacobs Creek is considered top end, and Rosemont/Penfolds marketing is all over the place. So, this trip I've put together a trio of wines to put past the taste test at The Greyhound at Letcombe Regis, as shown below:

Exclude the Bullers Ballantine Cab Sav, that's for a dinner.

But my thinking is:
  • Sparking Shiraz: Something very Australian. I looked at The Bests Sparkling Shiraz, but they've switched to crown seal, which I agree with, but I wasn't sure about how that would survive in my luggage on the flight. My other choice was Gallagher Sparkling Shiraz from Canberra, but I didn't have time to get out there.
  • John Gehrigs RG 2011 Riesling: Something very different, but luscious if you are a fan of those types of wines. I don't think an aged riesling is something they would see
  • Stanton & Killeen Classic Liquor Muscat: a tricky choice as I have a few Grands and Rares of Muscats from other wineries in that region. What if they don't like it? I thought I'd start with a Classic, and see who it goes.
Any other thoughts or ideas? I still have room in my bags, and haven't finalised my packing, so any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
 
A quintessential au red , raw and big boned , high acv, over the top in everything...…. pref from a nobody little winery that tastes like nothing else from anywhere….:)
What that exact wine is.. is very much a personal decision, but I opine that my concept is sound in terms of making a statement
