We had our fair share of beer in Munich during Oktoberfest. With one more day in town after it finished we found this great wine bar short walking distance from Marienplatz.

Not only they had a good Coravin list by the glass but all wines served in Zalto glassware!

Apart from the Coravin list there is a huge list by the bottle (including some Aussie) and also more simple wines by the glass. There were few more opened bottles that night from an event they hosted earlier which we could have by the glass.

One of the owners happened to be there and appreciated our enthusiasm saying most guests don’t really notice the glassware. We let the him choose wines for us, starting with couple of Mosel Rieslings (one of them on the list) moving to local PNs and finish with some French reds.

The food menu is small but of quality, made by ex Michelin star restaurants chefs. We had an amazing night, highly recommend this place when visiting Munich.

Hope you gave the owner a run down on the Aussie stuff.

My thoughts exactly @B3nno. With Coravin tech it’s easy to offer premium wines by the glass yet it’s hard to find bars in AUS that have decent by the glass list (and proper glassware).

Pending council approval, a new wine bar will be opening soonish in Merimbula.
It's being planned by the owner (Glen Baker) of a non descript bottle shop. Non descript that is until you walk to the back of the store where you come across the temperature controlled walk in cellar that has some amazing stuff.
The 2010 Grange for example is $900, or you can get 6 for $4,600 IIRC.
Glen I'm told loves fine wine so I'm keen to see how the wine bar goes.

There were some good wines on that list, particularly from VIC, like By Farr Tout Pres 2015 for €125. Exceptional vintage, was tempted to order but when in Europe it’s a crime not to drink old world.

This wine bar might be my best excuse to finally book a flight and come visit when you are in town

Despite DrRon’s comments, thought we’d try the English Chardonnay from Kent. Nice finish well made lemon but probably one of the most boring wines of the trip so far. The burgundy was lovely as usual.

The 1992 Meshach was that way and, while still quite drinkable, had fallen over. It was really the only disappointment.

(I will note for the puzzled that the McGuigan Zero was put in for a teetotaller, but he was one of 2 or 3 who nominated to attend that failed to make it to the event. Needless to say, we did not open that.)

A few of the blokes had to get going, so we decided not to get into the Talijancich port in favour of one - that became two - Botrytis Semillons that were not in the original lineup.

It was an excellent day.

Peter did remind us that there are about another 800 bottles to go...

2019. I have a few bottles in the cellar from different purchases. I just grabbed one at random. Turned out to actually be the youngest of them.

I agree with you. It's by far one of the best sub-$100 champagnes. With 40% reserve wine it's complexity is unrivalled. My other favouriate sub-$100 is Jacquesson.

And yet it was the 'free' champagne on my recent Ponant cruise, as mentioned before. Go figure.

A few gems picked up on spec

2005 Russell Augusta Chardonnay really smooth & still crisp. Lovely, still got years in it.

2018 Pasadera Pinot Noir Light bodied, pale, translucent, perfumed, delicious.
Drink now, yes please.

Had a few chevapi's with a bottle of 2000 Wendouree Cabernet Sauvignon, my first bottle smelt fantastic, but was way past. This one however in loved to expectations. Great fruit long smooth finish (already had a 1/2 of of champers before tasting)
Cork was in a million pieces though.
