Well, we've all been bumped out, WP, NB no matter!

Qantas seem have decided to sell Y+ to / from JFK and I have been bumped back to the WHY cabin beginning in row 51 :-|
You were originally allocated a premium economy seat on a WHY airfare and then moved back to WHY as the premium economy seats were sold?

No, yesterday WHY went up to row 35 on a 4 class configured 744. Now it starts at row 51.

The fare buckets showed no T or W class until today. These were not showing at all, not even W0 availability. E/F went ... J D C I Y B H ..., it now goes ... J D C I W T Y B H ...

SO, Qantas have decided they (will?) have enough 4 class 744 available to sell premium Y between LAX and JFK. So any preallocated in these seats got the @rse down to row 51+ ...

Ohhh! Not good news at all.

So what is the new coveted exit row on the 4 class 747's? I guess QF73 SYD-SFO end of August and QF30 LHR-HKG end of September will also be 4 class 747's.

It will have to be row fifty-eight then!

Wouldn't it be funny if you pre-allocate these seats and the aircraft gets substituted back to a 2-class or 3-class 747? :(

Not really, the only conceivable substitution that would put 58 as a non exit row would be on a 388; 58 is an exit row on all QF 744's.

My mistake. I thought row 55 was exit row in the 2-class and 3-class 747's.

Or subbed with an A330  or a 767 :shock: or a ... no, lets not go there.

I am ona MEL-LAX-JFK flight too...

The International legs are showing as 52 in economy..and are shown with a green tick.

However the LAX-JFK legs are not ticked...and when you click on the row 35 number shown ...no seat plan for the area opens...just for economy 51+

QF are selling PE on these flights and indeed is offeringa special PE fare at present.

So from this and the earlier posts I am assuming that my 35's will turn into 51+'s eventually?

Question for those in a similar position (or just based on past experience): Are your former PE seats (booked as discount WHY)also without the green tick..and still showing the original seat number (ie 30's)..or are they now showing a different ticket number with a green tick?

If things stay the way they currently are with your booking you will have to take pot luck with seating.

As per my post; lest week Qantas decided to start selling PE between LAC and JFK.

I had the same situation as you have described (showing row 35 on C/M/T but seatmap from row 51. I have now rectified this.

This is probably going to sound like a dumb question but I've recently just booked a trip to JKF too, but how do I find out where I'm sitting?

I'm leaving 13/10 - Would an allocation even be set yet?

I'm travelling on a povety fare (o) so upgrades aren't allowed but I'd still like to see if I'll be sitting in or on the wing of plane etc.

edit: actually i had a look on that checkmytrip and its saying seat number not specified

PE to JFK is officially available on the 4th July, so up to that point people may still be lucky and get seated appropriately :)

Out of curiosity - How do you know what variation of aircraft you're flying... the site says 747-400 but I noticed seatguru claims there are 4 variations... it's QF15 ...

I wonder if I can pre-book the 70-72 seats

There are 4 effective 744 Configurations that Qantas currently operate.

  • 2 Class
    • 18 seats in zone A, Y starts row 26
  • 3 Class Pacific (High J)
    • 14 seats in zone A, Y starts row 34
  • 4 Class Kangaroo (Low J)
    • 14 seats in zone A, Y starts row 40
  • 4 Class Pacific (High J)
    • 14 seats in zone A, Y starts row 51
Classes:
  • 2 Class - J and Y
  • 3 Class - F, J and Y
  • 4 Class - F, J, W and Y

One way i know is to check the seat maps on expert flyer. Also you will find the same aircraft config is nearly always used ont he soume route so unless there is either planned change or last minute change you can be reasonably sure flight QFnn is config a/b/c/d etc.

The configs currently... (used to be also a 3 class Kangaroo but i think all are now 4 class)

2 class - 56J/39W/275Y
3 class (with W, no F) - 56J/356Y
4 class Kangaroo - 14F/52J/32W/255Y
4 class Pacific - 14F/66J/40W/187Y
