[No More, QF selling PE Now]QF107/108 LAX/JFK Premium seating in WHY

Thanks SnowYeti, I guess it's possible our seats were changed earlier without it reflecting on the locator, but all indications suggest it was changed when I called. I was told that my seats had already changed when the aircraft was changed to a replacement - LOL. I said I'm looking online and it's still there and was told "you didn't pay for it so you wont get it, your seat request was denied". Damn grumps.

I only paid O and don't expect anymore but it's disappointing to have the rug pulled by some do-gooder for no reason.

So now I need to find a decent spot in economy, but I can't find Y seats in expertflyer? Am I forgetting something? What's the code for economy?

Yes then I was told there were massive school groups and unaccompanied minors on the flight so a large section was blacked out. I whinged I was at the back. Last time I whinged they reset something and every flight I took I was sitting where WP should be!

I was lucky to get 34A on my SFO-SYD and to my surprise, yes it was Y+ :) :)
It was so nice! I guess they were using this aircraft before even selling seats?

But it still doesn't make sense that they weren't updated till you called, and magically they appeared. She said even if I didn't call, when I did check in, I would have been moved to the seats she mentioned. GRR!!!!!!!

Using T for the seatmap. I'm assuming it was never available as Y (?).

Interestingly I don't seem to be able to see economy seats using any of the codes??
It was available for WHY!

When you booked Qantas were not selling PE on the LAX-JFK route.

As per my OP I made a booking mid march and was pre-allocated in row 35. At the time this was PE seating being sold to WHY passengers. On the flight WHY service would have been received.

On ~25th March Qantas decided they were going to sell PE on this route. So all those pre-allocated in PE seating (with WHY service) needed to be moved to the WHY seating.

As a result many of those pre allocations were changed, but not all.

In my case with two flights, one was and one was not. The one that was not was still showing ~35H but no Orange seat appeared on the C/M/T seat map. I called qantas to fix this.

Any pre-allocation that has was not been changed from the PE area will result in an invalid resolution when Qantas maps the seating to their internal boarding system. In wich case it becomes pot luck.

My advice is to lock that row 51+ seating in Now!

Yes - this usually what will happen. You'll get different seats at check-in, unless you've got something allocated beforehand.

It's good they did, as you would not have been seated in those PE seats when you take your flight and you would have had to take pot luck with the remaining seating.

What's the date of your flight?

I just got row 35H/J for BNE to LAX and 70A/B from LAX to JFK ..

are these any good?

Seems like you got what I did, Y+ on the way out.

It might change, it might not. Don't change your booking!!!! in my opinion! :)

so on checkmytrip its got my seats and big green tick next to it, does this mean its a done deal or can i be reallocated at any given time?

Can be changed at any time. It's in the T&C's of carriage on Qantas.

Yep

I was even once allocated to a new seat AFTER check in! when boarding it beeped and they printed a new BP for me :/

Moved forward!! No idea why, I was happy with allocated and didn't ask to be moved ...

Sorry phat-dave.BNE-LAX is not a 4 class plane so you are in a Y seat.

Sorry to bust your bubble; BNE/LAX is a 2-class service. The aircraft have no PE; WHY stars at row 26.

Here's a seatmap of the normal configuration:

http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744-56J356Y.pdf

FWIW, 35H/J are pretty good seats; just behind the crew rest in 35H/J/K.

the guy from qantas seemed to think this flight was a three class config and he actually suggested row 35... he said row 34 & 70-73 were "blocked" or something and couldnt be preallocated

Sounds good, but there are no designated "H" seats in Qantas PE.

Hi,

I'd check some of the seat maps available here:
Fly - Onboard - Seat Maps - Boeing 747-438ER

The only class on a 747 that has "H" seats is economy (ABC DEFG HJK)
PE has "AB DEFG JK" and Business downstairs is "AB DEF JK"

If you have a "H" seat, you're sitting in economy.

Directly in front of you are crew rest seats. These will not be occupied for much of the flight (if at all on QF107/QF108 JFK/LAX) and reclined even less. Aside from exit row seats, 35H is one of the most popular seats in Qantas' 2 and 3 class 744 configurations.

With 4 class 744, 41H (Kangaroo) and 53H (Pacific) are the popular equivalents.

I actually have 53H pre-allocated in all my upcoming qf107/qf108 LAX/JFK segments.

shhhh, don't tell everybody ;)
41H is a top seat ! (4 class kangaroo)
Although you have a row of passengers in row 40 in front of you 41C is also not bad... and you can just about reach the water fountain from your seat.

Wouldn't 35J be a middle seat?

It would be... but maybe he was referring to a couple... K in row 41 is also good if you just want to sleep, you can recline as soon as you take off and nobody in front or behind to annoy you.
As long as its an isle for me i would prefer to be anywhere with a free seat beside or else up the front if its a full flight. I have friends that love the A/K seats and like to sleep. each to his/her own. But i am yet to meet anybody who likes being in between 2 people (on a plane you dirty minds !)

Anyone been in row 40? I've got 40D coming up on a 4 classer. Seatguru says its good due to cutout under the bulkhead - has this been verified by anyone?

Cheers,
JK.
