Actually - on second thoughts - no - AA is absolutely horrible for Australia-US redemptions and I think all AFFers should refrain from even thinking about it. Don't do it - anyone - it's really bad!!!

Bad program, bad value and bad redemptions.

Too late for that! There's a tidal wave of US Dividend Miles members coming your way who, without TG, are going to need a new way out of Aus! Actually availability on MH looks great right now but I don't know if its just a honeymoon period?

How are you seeing MH availability??

Yes, that's right. Not recommended. No good. We want them all to ourselves. :D

I cannot see anything ex KUL , what is it with Airlines systems for awards and KUL!

Here's an example picked at random...loads of it!

No, no special conditions that I'm aware of :)

I have redeemed awards from one persons account for two other passengers. The fees and taxes were paid on my own CC
The surnames were the same but the website did not appear to have restrictions on redemptions

Thanks for the reply.

Is there a worse case scenario depending on the outcome of the merger or is that discussion not relevant to people's decision making process?

I am wondering if anyone has managed to book 2 * J or 2 * F for australia-USA or vv flights?
Not USA, but I've got 3 x J BNE/SYD/HKG/LHR, then 2 x F LHR/HKG/MEL plus 1 x J on those same flights. That's when it was easy - now I have to try and access 2 x F and 2 x J on the same flight - not so easy and needs to be 330 days out

It will take them a while to merge systems. So I wouldn't be too worried in the meantime. Worst case is that they take the highest cost and most restrictive of the two programs. But remembering they are still competing against United Airlines - so their program can't end up too bad (or people will jump ship). (Although Skyteam is pretty bad so maybe that's not such a good analogy!)

What we might see is the introduction of one ways (all the other USA programs offer them as far as i can tell), we might lose stopovers (so i recommend you stock up on something like BA avios, so you can open jaw two AA awards and use Avios for the connector - for example SYD-HKG with AA, HKG-NRT on Avios, then NRT-SYD with AA again). Probably gone will be circuitous routings. I think with AA awards you need to have a published fare on the route or else you can't ticket an award.

Worst case in terms of availability will be Oneworld. Hard to find QF, but fairly ok to get AA flights ex Asia to USA, and there is CX ex AU (quadruple daily ex SYD/MEL).

UA is *A. Delta is SkyTeam. But, that makes your analogy better, so a piece of happy confusion :)

no. My point is that the AA will need to compete with other USA based FF programs - so they can't make theirs too bad. I had UA in mind. But then I thought Skyteam has a pretty bad program, so one hopes that AA doesn't mimic Skyteam, but instead stays competitive with UA.

New credit card month ticked over so I have just purchased 60,000 miles for $1808.75 USD. I don't need them for at least 12 months but I do have a plan

Sounds like a cunning use of points is in the wind.

Also purchased 60,000 miles before Christmas so I will have 180,000 miles to play with. It now depends on what's available at 330 days
