So is Hawaiin Airlines part of OneWorld or just an AA partner to use the points?

Didn't realise could do a stop over in US - we would love either Vegas or New York as well and that would make the trip a lot more valuable.

The trip is wanted in April/May 2014 for my wife and I - wonder what availability will be like?

Dale.

It's just an AA partner for Miles awards.
I'm no expert but I would think your chances of 2 J seats outside school holidays at that time of year will be good :)

Hi,

I am thinking of getting miles for a business class trip to Hawaii from Tasmania. As far as I know the only One World carrier to go direct to Hawaii is Qantas - is that correct?

Are there any other One World carriers where the total flight time isn't too large?

My understanding of AA redemptions is that you can't have a stop over - is that correct? I mean a stop over on the way. Eg Cathay goes from Australia to Hong Kong and then to Hawaii but that is a large total flight time. Would be fine if could stopover in Hong Kong but if have to do 2 point trips then the total points is large.

Thanks for any advice.

Dale.

AA awards don't allow stopovers, but you can transit for up to 24 hours. CX doesn't fly to HNL, only via code share. I would be surprised if the code-share was available for award redemption through AA. however you could book on the JL flight if it was available.

AA rewards generally require that a published commercial fare exists on a particular route in order for an award ticket to be available. So if JL has a published fare SYD-NRT-HNL then if there is award availability you should be able to book it.

Are you sure?
I think it's not possible unless you use 2 awards.
Flights from South Pacific to North America cannot go via another region.
Would need South Pacific to Asia 1 and Asia 1 to North America for this routing IIRC

I think HA is a partner AA use for award redemption. I was looking at flights to ORD later in the year and there were several offered via HNL. Not really an airline I would be enthusiastic about travelling on given the poor seats they are supposed to have, especially in J.

I don't know. I think you might be right - SWP-USA is supposed to be TPAC - but I didn't see a specific exclusion for a connection in Asia. But i suspect you're right.

But HA can't be used Australia-USA right? (according to the rules set out on FT)

yes it can, it's frequently the only option given on AA.com when searching for SYD-LAX

i meant to edit my post but an error 404 came up for AFF!!

i was going to say that you are indeed correct, travel isn't allowed via a third region unless it comes under one of the listed exceptions, which syd-NRT-USA would not.

I didn't realize that stopovers were allowed on the NA end of the itinerary.....

Damn - could have saved some money :)

This is excellent :D. May have to get one and bankroll someone else to get another set. Suprise trip for the girlfriend to HKG or similar later in the year in J or F ought to be worth some brownie points.

And you can also stopover at the last airport which represents your departure point from NA (including Canada).

Dammit!!

I've spent way extra on internal flights that I had too!! :(

I thought it was the same as the 24 hour rule for other stops eg. Transit in SYD.

Making good use of this next year
JFK-YVR, visit Whistler then YVR-HKG all in CX J :D (a few phone calls to sort out though as one Agent tried to tell me that I couldn't stop over in Canada without using 2 awards !)

Hi,

I just got around to signing up with AAdvantage and checking out their reward partners. Some good hotels that I use that have pulled out of the Qantas program are there. Also Europe Car in Europe earns points which excellent for upcoming trip.

I also did some award availability searching and the results are amazing - there is heaps of availability to Europe and Hawaii - nearly every day in economy and fairly good in business and some first.

Basically QANTAS SUCKS! in comparison.

If only there were an Australian credit card that could earn AA miles.

I've got a BA premium economy flight coming up - got to think whether want to earn AA miles or Qantas points.

Thanks for making us aware of this program.

Dale.

As one promo ends another begins :

90K Miles for $1650 US plus Fees. Good news for all of you didn't splurge on the last one ( not me :( )

All I am fairly new to all of this so just looking for some advice, both hubby and I are AA advantage members but have not got ff points with them and our trip next week on our first SC run will all go to Qantas. I am sitting on heaps of points anyway and hoping to use for a OWE fare in 2014 to Europe and the USA. Just wondering if it is worth us hopping in and buying some of these extra miles and keep for future travel as we love the USA and try and get there each year..can anyone give me a bit of an update on the advantages of this...not sure it helps but we hope to be Gold Members after this SC run next week.

A query on minimum point guarantee - does AA have a minimum point guarantee if flying on Qantas? Seems from reading things that only for the higher status people.

Might have to keep them with Qantas if no minimum earn.

Also does AA have an earning calculator like Qantas? Can't find one.

Thanks,
Dale.
