A query on minimum point guarantee - does AA have a minimum point guarantee if flying on Qantas? Seems from reading things that only for the higher status people.

Might have to keep them with Qantas if no minimum earn.

Also does AA have an earning calculator like Qantas? Can't find one.

Thanks,
Dale.

greatcirclemapper (.com) is fairly accurate.

Bump!
Just a reminder folks that this offer closes soon. I will be buying up another 90K to replenish the AA coffers :D

don't know if this affects anyone else, but trying to access the 'buy miles' section of AA.com via chrome was returning an 'invalid' site error once it hit points.com. Problem solved by going through internet explorer.

Hmmm, just reading that stuff about trying to find TPAC SWP to US and the lack of availability of seats and that two awards needed if transiting other regions, just highlights the loss USDM will be... Doesn't matter how cheap points are to buy and reasonably priced reward charts if there just isn't the availability of award seats... Real pity its disappearing...

You can go SWP to NA via asia. I have held a reservation (Per to NYC) via KHG with CX. If the route appears on a QF award search then you 'should' be good to go. What you cant do is have a stopover (except in at the first/last city of transit before leaving NA). Then it gets repriced as 2 awards. We also dont know what AAdvantage will look like post merger. Will they make AAdvantage more likeUSDM, who knows pure speculation on all of our parts.

Do you mean HKG airport?
I would be very surprised if this gets ticketed as 1 award. The only way to do this as one award is using the Explorer Award which is distance based with multiple stopovers ( and increased mileage rates)
MileSAAvers from the South Pacific cannot transit another region, travel is transpacific only.

Are both of those, or either, the same as using that other carriers award chart on the AA site, or are we talking about something different again??? Maybe the rules from Perth are slightly different than for East Coast, as PER-HKG-LAX is only a few hundred miles more than PER-SYD-LAX??

And with that stopover in the first/last NA city, is that first or last or first and last?

Princess Fiona is right. AA awards do not allow a transit via a third region, unless you fall into one of the stated exceptions. These include, for example, USA-Asia 2 via Asia 1. But not SWP-USA via Asia.

You convinced me to buy those AA miles Princess Fiona. Now we each have 90000 miles.
We went to Strada with Myrna+1, Flashware+1, two of our friends but no Princess at London Bridge.
We still owe you a dinner!
Hope you can take AAdvantage of your AA miles with your +1 sometime soon.
The new place for casual French dining in Perth is Bistro des Artistes in Hay Street Subiaco.
We hope to see you out there.

I've been a bit late joining the AA party, but have finally decided to jump in and give it a try. Points purchased :) Now to do some reading to get my head around the program rules etc ;)

You work in CBD? Will be good to meet more Per members!

Urrrgh such a dilemma. Buy now, buy later? Lock it in, or risk a better deal?

I could be wrong, but IMO this is one of the better offers from AA if you can buy the max amount of 60K ( 90K with bonus).
Not so great if you already purchased earlier in the year as the bonus amounts aren't as good.

Hi Princess Fiona,
I hope you don't mind me asking a question or two.

I am going to buy 90000 for myself and my partner. We are both just the entry level AAdvantage level, does this cause any difference to the bonus etc. Also can she transfer the points to my account and i book us the tickets in one booking, or is it best to book separate. i had a quick look and saw availability for example for 2 to LHR in F

Thanks very much

Took the plunge and bought 2 x 90K ;)

I should qualify this by stating that I'm an enthusiastic amateur when it comes to AA :)
I would not transfer points between accounts as its pretty costly and not necessary.
The status level in AA is not relevant for mileage redemption on MileSAAver awards or for bonus points on buying miles.
You should be able to book seats separately from each account.
The KISS principle applies as always ;)
