New credit card month ticked over so I have just purchased 60,000 miles for $1808.75 USD. I don't need them for at least 12 months but I do have a plan

Purchased miles and bonus miles all credited in less than 24 hours....Take notice VA !!!!

The new El Segundo method: Country of residence - Canada. It yields a result but I will be interested to see if miles are credited.

AAdvantage Newbie question, hope its ok to ask it in this thread:
I've been reading up on this bonus miles promo and have opened an AAdavatage account for myself. I have a trip to the US in November/December this year. Flights to/from the US/Australia are already booked but we need to get internal flights for the 4 of us (3 adults, 1 child). Routings will be LAX-MIA-GCM (stop)-MIA and then MCO-MSP(stop)-LAX. Is this something doable with mile redemptions? Could I open accounts for all 4 of us and buy some of these/all of these flights with those? None of the others currently have AAdvantage accounts and we are all related if that helps ie me, Mr Timtammi and my 2 daughters.
Is there likely to be any issues with paying for the taxes if we spread the bookings across each of the accounts?
Are AA domestic award redemptions a good use of these points or are we better off just buying the flights?
Any and all pointers much appreciated, I've been doing my research but am having trouble getting my head around it all.

Cheers

Timmi

I would generally say it would be cheaper to buy internal flights in the USA than use miles. Have you got the fares for the routes you listed?

And with a little judicious planning some YUPPs could increase the number of life time status credits and maybe even assist in reaching a higher level status.

I had done some preliminary pricing using the aa.com multitrip tool and the prices did seem pretty reasonable but I was looking at the cheapest options in coach and at that stage MSP was not in the mix (it is now due to work commitments). I was thinking that maybe using this bonus miles offer would enable us to travel at least some of the sectors up the front at a lower cost than just buying (which I think is out of the question).

anyone concerned about redemptions now the merger has been approved?

haven't pulled the trigger on the second 60k points and now not sure what to do!

no one is concerned about redemptions. AA's program will continue as it is until at least the third quarter when they start the merger. And it's all going to AA after that anyway - soo one world flights and changes won't be affected.

YUPP fares (instant upgrade confirmed in First class) are often just a few dollars more than flying coach.

Thanks MEL_Traveller, I have heard/read about these famour YUPP fares. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but how do I get these to show when searching flight options? In the multi-trip tool I have to choose class on the first page and these don't seem to come up if I choose Business/First?

there is a whole thread devoted to the topics of YUPPs here on AFF. It will answer everything you ever wanted to know (and probably stuff you didn't as well!) Its under the AA forum I think.

If you have booked the international flights it is probably too late but one of the great things about the AA points is it is the same no matter where in Australia you go from (even NZ actually) to anywhere in the US. So PER - JFK is same as SYD -LAX. In my case my LAX - MCO was two weeks after the CBR - SYD - LAX.

Thanks for the info fersea that is really good to know. Too lste for this time but there is always next time!

My friend and I had our miles (including the bonus) purchased and credited within 5 hours yesterday. Booked flights last night and within 20 minutes had them confirmed and ticketed. And with a call to the Brisbane AA number last night I had my QF/BA booking reference in a couple of minutes. Very impressed with the process and service from AA and AAdvantage!

Awesome promo - I wonder if we can expect more with the US/AA merger going through - US is pretty liberal with its promos.

At the moment you are limited to a max of 60,000 miles purchase per calendar year. If you bought the max this month then you cannot purchase more miles until 2014.
They need to change the T&C's for any other promo this year

Hi,

I am thinking of getting miles for a business class trip to Hawaii from Tasmania. As far as I know the only One World carrier to go direct to Hawaii is Qantas - is that correct?

Are there any other One World carriers where the total flight time isn't too large?

My understanding of AA redemptions is that you can't have a stop over - is that correct? I mean a stop over on the way. Eg Cathay goes from Australia to Hong Kong and then to Hawaii but that is a large total flight time. Would be fine if could stopover in Hong Kong but if have to do 2 point trips then the total points is large.

Thanks for any advice.

Dale.

Hi Dale you cannot stopover outside North America on straightforward AA MilesAAver bookings. OneWorld and Partner Airlines chart.
You can travel on either QF or HA to Hawaii, connections from HBA ( or other to SYD) will be fine and included.
For the same price in AA miles you can make Hawaii the stopover and go onto any other city in North America from there eg. HBA-SYD-oHNL-JFK if you are interested in getting a big trip for your outlay
