re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Wow, that doesn't look shabby at all. Puts A380 F within the reach of punters like me. $6,739 if cash.

Thanks to this thread I've found & booked these sweat FASA SYD-SIN-SYD for $734 & 180,000 QF1 & QF2 A388.......thanks to the double SC offer the earn is 720SC & 23,448 points.

What I've learnt - need to travel mid week, very hard to secure for two or more seats on short notice (only booked last week for travel in May), once you add a sector at the start/end - the cheap seats are knocked out of the system.

This is a notification that your Flight Alert "QF11 30APR U" has located at least 1 availability opening(s) at this time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For: QF11/Business - Award & Upgrade (U)
From: SYD to LAX
Date: 04/30/12 1:05 PM
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just got an email today about 1400 from Expert Flyer advising me of at least 1 U class seat available on QF11 tomorrow 30 April. We're not going for a week so obviously don't need the seat anymore but was curious whether the seat became available after QF processed all the points upgrade requests.

Had a look at availability on E/F just now to see how many seats were still available in the J cabin & it said "J7 C7 D4 U0 I0" so the seat was obviously snapped up pretty quickly.

Which reminds me I must set an alert so my email sends me a text to my phone the minute I receive any emails from E/F so I can grab the seat if need be.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Almost certainly the Upgrades being processed - had a similar alert last Tuesday afternoon for QF11 on 25th. I had forgotten about the alert as I had already snaffled P class on QF93.

Very had to book awards online, xASA or otherwise within 24hours of the flight.

So while it may be tricky to book an award from the outset 24 hours prior to travel if you had a JASA already booked eg on QF107 SYD/LAXn a 744 then a "U" class seat became available on QF11 an A380 you could change your booking online or call up the Premium Desk?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Interesting points.

To make a booking contravenes the T&C's of the QFF program, although in the past some agents would simply define 24H as 'next day'.

However, to change an existing booking, it really depends upon who is doing it.

(Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions)
...
14.2.2
Classic Awards must be booked between 353 days and 24 hours before the scheduled departure. Classic Award bookings will not be accepted within 24 hours of scheduled departure.

...

15.2.2 Any Seat Awards may only be booked between the time the applicable airline releases the relevant seats and the earlier of:
(a) the time specified in the Fare Conditions; and
(b) 24 hours before the scheduled departure. Some regional and overseas locations may require booking up to 14 days or more in advance to facilitate the issuing and mailing of Any Seat Award tickets (or in the case of Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards booked at jetstar.com, an Itinerary confirmation). Minimum booking times for departure ports apply. Information on other ports is available by calling Qantas.

Hi all, I have just booked my first JASA at the end of this month HKG-SYD-CNS and after it had ticketed I tried to request an upgrade to First Class on the HKG-SYD sector but the website is saying "Upgrade Not Available."

Is this fare eligible for an On Departure Upgrade to First Class ? I called Qantas to try to request it but the lady did not know and spoke to the HelpDesk and said that she can only upgrade me if there is a P class availability and change the fare to a FASA ? The T&C of the fare said that "Flight Upgrade Awards are eligble on this fare."

Sorry if this has been answered but I could not find the answer without trawling through 47 pages.

Cheers
Mark

It should be a normal upgradable fare however the system cannot cope with ASAs just like many staff seem to not know about them, it needs to be done over the phone (lodging the request):

Sorry to sound dumb but can I do a On Departure Upgrade, like if I bought a normal business class fare and then apply for the upgrade and get advised 24-48 hours before and pay 25,000 points ?

Cheers

Not an on departure upgrade where the request is made sub 24 hours before the flight, but you can make a normal upgrade request, you just need to speak to the service centre.

Great, thanks markis10, I thought that's what I asked when I phoned the service centre but the lady was trying to change my flight to a FASA and wouldn't let me apply for a normal upgrade request. Will try again and see if I have better luck.

Phoned Premium Desk service centre - got someone who submitted the normal upgrade request no questions asked - obviously some people are more aware of ASA conditions and it's a matter of finding the right person.

Fingers crossed for getting my first First Class seat !!

For what it's worth, EF isn't that fast with it's emails - Last time I used it I saw the seat I wanted available (exactly T-40) and switched to it, about 20-30 mins later I got an email from EF.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Thanks to everyone involved in this topic. I booked my first ever JASA yesterday, just MEL-WLG-MEL but at Classic pointslevel, taxes for 2 came in at $559.22 incl card fees.

Nice to be able to get the SCs and points, but the cancellation clauses were the clincher for me ... no penalty.

Regards,

BD

Anyone having trouble finding good Fasa jasa's to LHR these days? I can't find any... =(

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Maybe try Frankfurt for a JASA or three ...

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

To update my experience for March 2013 was able to get 2 JASAs SYD-JNB for 84000 points + $400 each.In April 2013 2 FASAs JNB-SYD for 126000 points + $440.
So they certainly are still available but obviously on popular routes you need to be looking as they become available. On both dates that we booked if you look now the points cost is up x4.

Just into the future, between Feb and May 2013. Maybe they haven't been released yet, when do they get released?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

May 11th may have been available from 10am EST this morning. If any were release, they seem to have been snapped up.

As I indicated, there is QF5 U class availability here and there - seems little else.
