Just a thought......
Would SQ let DJ use the name "Virgin Australia" without getting some concession from them? And why would SQ let MH get all the business from Virgin Australia and not get it for themselves? SQ and MH are not exactly the best of friends are they?

I had kind of wondered myself ... the whole "end of year" to change V Aus over to Virgin and also complete coverage of Asia by then too, plus revamped Velocity (new earn and redemption partners maybe?)

If true, then would be great

I thought that I read somewhere that VAA would have to pay a royalty (or some sort of payment, not specified whether ongoing or one off) to Virgin Atlantic (or directly to their parents - Virgin Enterprises & Singapore Airlines) for use of the Virgin trademark, in an aviation business which operated international scheduled services? It also mentioned that VAA was not willing to discuss or disclose the details of the arrangement.

I think you will find that all Virgin business worldwide pay a licensing fee back to Virgin Enterprises. SQ have got something out of allowing the use of the term, but exactly what they got is one of those things we'll likely never get to know.

"Commercial in confidence" is the term used I think?.
Cheers

Well i think we know what the relaunched FF program will be called then. I doubt they'd launch a new logo for 6 weeks.

I was going to say the same! Although I thought the dates for the full revamp of Velocity weren't until the end of the year? (Mind you, even in that case I'm doubting there would be a name change.)

I think they said "in a few months" at the rebrand launch - so probably not end of the year, but probably not my six weeks either. In my mind the Velocity relaunch is going to happen around the same time as the details of the Air NZ tie up are announced/ executed -- but i've totally made that connection up. I just think the dates should roughly coincide and they would have to make some big changes to velocity around that time anyway.

Without offending anyone, it dosen't look much like a new logo to me.

More like typing the word velocity rewards in the new font they have created, with a little plane next to it. I'm thinking because it looks like a 5min job, it might just be temp logo until the new product is rolled out?

There was something in the original ASX release a few months ago (when they made the first announcement about A330s, biz class etc) and I think it said "by the end of the year". But I do hope that it's earlier as they've since indicated.

I agree the design doesn't blow me away but i'm not sure why they'd bother? Why introduce a temporary new logo for a very short period of time?

I don't think so. I bet they paid $$$$$$ for that.

Probably part of Hans Hulbosch's new design. Fits in well. From his ramblings: "White is pure and white is clean and white is clear". "The purple will balance it back to the middle because it's a warm colour"

YouTube - Hans Hulsbosch Talks Creating A Brand With Virgin Australia

I presume he is the person who was behind the decision to not use a coloured flag. At least it's hard to stuff up the Velocity logo....

Because the old logo doesn’t really fit in with the new website design. It looks out of place, and if they’re waiting a few months they may as well make it look right for now :p

Perhaps the typeface of the new temp logo is a clue on what we could see though.

From a design standpoint, it's a little bit more complicated than a 5 minute whip-up. Deceptively (and effectively) simple. It looks a little out of place with the rest of the site (as is), but I'm sure it'll look a whole lot better if/when we get new site designs (please please please be similar to VX).

I don't know that they'd put in the effort to design a placeholder logo. What's the point? That said, I agree there we're probably a few months away from the relaunch. I'd say July/August - a big announcement for Q1.

Didn't they make new, cheap, quick and simple name tags for the new uniform... It got them thru until the new brand came out.. Then they made real ones?

Hmm. Not sure that's analogous, the uniform is another example of where they made a gradual change before making a major one and actually demonstrated that they were happy to do things in stages but weren't willing to spend any money or effort on the things that were being changed (eg. the name tag).

I could be wrong - would be the first time obviously <cough cough> - but i reckon this is the first stage of the velocity revamp and not a side track from it. Also, i think the plane is a cue to the fact that this logo has been designed to be used by partners such as - to pick a random example - a supermarket that might be flogging velocity points.

At best, i reckon it's a transitional logo - if there is a new name coming or a major rebrand expect to see that little plane device form part of it.

More than happy to be told I'm wrong 777. After all, I'm just guessing. You know as many facts here as I do...
