Now You're Flying Virgin Australia

After all those responses (and thank you kindly for them) I get that: it's either one of the new ones, though possibly not...

I'm pretty sure its not a brand new aircraft. They would be painted at the factory. There were a couple of white aircraft floating around pre-Virgin Aus launch, proabley one of those going to be refitted.

VH-YFE is a brand new 738 with the BSI interior and is currently all white. I know this for sure as I flew in it last week (by fluke) and have a photo of it parked at the gate! For some reason I thought you'd flown in the same one Liam, or was that the A330?

Are you talking about my OOL-SYD-OOL trip? I flew on VH-YFC in her full new Virgin Australia Livery..

Ah right I see! Sorry my mistake. But VH-YFE is definitely brand new with the BSI interior and all white. I think it must have arrived just before the new name was announced, so just missed out on being painted before going into service. I didn't mind what the outside looked like when I flew on it when I was sitting in the new J seats!! ;)

pshepvic is correct,VH-YFE is a 737-81D with the blue sky interior ,it is currently in all white livery and will be painted in the new colour scheme in the next few weeks,Virgin also has VH-YFC which is already in the new colours ,it is also a 737-81D with the BSI,as mentioned the next 738 to be delivered to Virgin,VH-YFF will be in the new livery ex factory but my understanding is that it is not fitted with the blue sky interior or new style overhead bins,I believe that it will be the last of the current order to be delivered without BSI and that after that all new aircraft will have it.
I have an excel file of all the current Virgin planes with details of which color scheme they are in etc if anyone would like a copy they can PM me.
Cheers

Ahh, this is where I am getting confused. I thought YFE was comming from the factory already in its new paint job. I must be thinking of YFF.

The new 800 I was on this morning didn't have any IFE.

Not that a short haul bothers me, but is that why everyone is still discussing the options? Retrofit?

Yup. IFE for all classes has been promised - just not exactly what that will be, will it be a copy of JQ's approach or QF's new gen product or something completely different?...

I also hope the final design has much better dividers between J an Y.

A heavy white curtain from floor to ceiling with a glossy silky finish would look fantastic sitting against the purple see through barrier. The cabin lighting colours would make the white curtain appear to change colours with the rest of the cabin :D

+ making the area more intimate

On another note, I was just looking at flights SYD-LHR and Etihad had first class cabins for $11,000 return! Qantas first was almost $20,000 and doesn't have a private cabin lol

Speaking of clashing, the maroon curtain at the front of the J section on VH-YFE doesn't really go with the red and purple on the uniforms, and the purple mood lighting in the aircraft...

I suppose it can be overcome, but a higher divider/curtain would clash with the overhead bin doors!

Actually, in thinking a bit more about it, on the BSI, it's the whole overhead bin that drops down, not just doors (hatches) swinging up like on the older 800s, so a bit more difficult to manage unless they have a range of different bin sizes available for retrofit.

Here is a little something, in the case Skywest and Region express slipped under the Virgin banner

Rex is struggling in some markets, they have just announced that they are looking at pulling out of
some routes like Griffith and Merimbula because they can't turn a profit so I highly doubt that Virgin would want to get into bed with them, plus the Rex fleet is getting old and needs updating and I doubt Virgin would want to take on that task.

Thanks Ansett! Maybe they will give me money if I make a video saying "White is pure, white is clean - Purple is a warm colour" and draw kangaroos with really long legs
