Food for thought,

I tweeted Luke Mangan suggesting pancakes in the lounge during the morning, what does everybody else think of the idea?

Great idea, but won't help me Tuesday morning OOL to SYD

Mel domestic QF J lounge has a pancake making machine. Nice being very fresh and warm. So yes DJ, time to follow this good QF lead. ;)

Definitely. As far as I'm concerned, they can get rid of all the meat and cheese etc at breakfast time, and maybe have some more breakfasty type stuff. More muffins, danishes, croissants, fruit, maybe some hot food would be nice as well. I like the yoghurt things (similar to QF J lounge) although they could be a bit bigger.

Breakie things would be nice, although in saying that, has anyone here also fallen for those yoguht glasses in SYD lounge at breakie? Those and the little muffins are great. Some tropical fruit would be the go though, a selection of Rambutan, jackfruit, lychee, mango etc...........pushing it, do you think?

I think that's a great idea - Most people love pancakes (including myself!) and they are pretty cheap and easy for them to make. A large variety of fresh fruits is also a must, and wouldn't be that hard to put in place.

- A big tray of scrambled eggs, and pan fried tomato halves would also be nice.

I agree, some muffins and danishes would be great!

If it's not too hard some hot food would be great as well, maybe some scrambled eggs and hash browns? I don't know how hard that is to organise, but it would be great in the morning.

Has anyone seen a firm date for Virgin junking Velocity and relaunching their new PROPER FF program??

I'm about to LOSE it with Velocity and the only thing keeping me going is this supposed 'coming soon' announcement!!!

They've said quite a few times that the relaunch will come by the end of the year, with some of the details released before that. So at the most it will be 5 months and 14 days. But I doubt they'll wait until new year's eve, so I think you'll probably hear about it before then!

I have a theory it will be around August as the Singapore/ DL etc partnerships come online. Also things like the P/E taste tests end at end of August - although they could just be extended again. Then again i am totally making this up based on a series of probably uninformed guesses.

Also i don't see how the new program will be called anything other than Velocity. Why invest in a new logo, new branded credit cards, etc etc if you're going to junk it all in a few months time? Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Well, there was no decision on whether they were even going to change its name, so they may not be junking it - just revising it.

The P/E taster has been rolling on for quite some time. I suspect the real end of that will be when the business class on 737's is formally rolled out. Hopefully at that time, the P/E taster will be replaced by a formal process for requesting upgrades to business class.

So my uninformed guess will be that it will conincide with the domestic business class on the 737's coming online.....

Didn't really comment on the name changing, personally I don't really care about the name, more the program! JB has been quoted several times that it is being completely overhauled and that the name is up for grabs as well. This is probably in recognition that Velocity does come with some baggage (no pun!).

Hmmm...life must be bad - don't think it's really worth losing any sleep over a FFP, IMO.

Life is great thanks and I don't lose sleep over Velocity but I am getting sick of chasing no-posting points from multiple partners including Virgin themselves. I fly Virgin a lot (a real Gold as opposed to a comped Gold) but they make it bloody difficult to remain positive about them sometimes especially with Velocity dragging them down.

Well the educated consensus seems to be around August..... not too much longer - can't come quickly enough!!!

*** HOT OFF THE PRESS ***

I just got off the phone from changing a booking with Virgin. I was speaking to someone in Oz and I casually mentioned that I was aiming for Platinum by the end of the year.

She then said "oh we got an email about that today". I said "really? what did it say?" She then said "oh, I better check if I'm allowed to say anything yet ... [pause] ... oh damn it says it's not public information yet".

She then said "Usually we're the last to find out these things as we're probably likely to mention something accidentally on the phone before we're supposed to!"

So ... if an email has been sent out to the call centre, and I'd agree they probably do get notified quite close to the public release date for info (based on experience working in training at other organisations) I'd guess there's some sort of announcement or further information on Platinum coming some time pretty soon! Well at least I hope there is!

(PS. Feedback for Virgin Australia - Sarah in the J class contact centre reservations was excellent!)

Interesting news. It must be close. You should have said, "Yeah, I was reading the details about Platinum this morning, pretty good huh? What did you think the best benefit of all was?"
