Now You're Flying Virgin Australia

I would suggest Lounges are not going to make DJ WP interesting.

However if they look at what AA does for their EXPs and do the unlimited domestic OPUPs (if there is a PE / J seat available) and a few systems wide OPUPs then it becomes valuable.

Then add in the SC reserve fund as done by MH for their top tier FFers, where you retain in your SC reserve fund, for use in future lean years, any SCs earned above the retain levels, then DJ WP would get really interesting and leading edge.

Like AirNZ have done since May for their gold elites ... additional status earned over the requalification level (1350) up to ~150% of requalification (2000) get banked towards your next "year"'s requalification. Earn more than 150% and get an entire additional Gold Elite year 'banked'.

I wasn't quick enough!

I personally think the Qualification level will be 1000 though, and requal at 800, ie. double gold. Honestly don't think it will be triple gold as some might have said before. That would make it 1500, and therefore higher than QF, which I think would be very unlikely, particularly when trying to lure those customers.

Based on that prediction above, as it stands I'll be at 727 SCs by the end of this week, with 4 months to go until any of those SCs drop off, and my flying has kicked up another notch this month. I now only have to do 3 more return MEL-SYD in PE and one in full Y, and I'll be over the magic 1000 mark.

Under the old SC system it would have been more difficult, as in PE I didn't come close to doubling my SCs over full Y (sometimes with only a small fare difference it was as little as 210 points or 2.1 SCs in the new scale difference). So the new SCs are definitely working for me!

For those who had a go at those of us who took the Gold status match, I think mine has proven it's worth to VA!

Anything around a 1000 would be good for the next couple of months for me please!

Well I hope it isn't announced for at least a couple of weeks..........I'm expecting gold at the end of next week and I'd like to be "top dog" for at least a few days :p.

In some ways QF and DJ provide a future year status guarantee with the soft landing. Whilst not banking SCs it still has some future year benefits.

ie. On QF if you hit WP you're guaranteed WP for a year, then SG for a year, then PS for the third year, and theoretically wouldn't have to take a single flight for 3 years before you were back at bronze.

DJ also offer a soft landing, but obviously only down one level for now. In another post somewhere VA did mention that Plat would be a soft landing back to gold as well.

Are you sure it works like that? There is certainly anecdotal evidence of some FFs being comped a year but I wasn't aware QF gave soft landings as the norm.

Plenty of people have reported soft landings, myself included.

I thought that QF always had a soft landing but it's just not officially documented anywhere.

Interestingly, Velocity it actually specifies it in the terms and conditions:

7.9 If the total number of Status Credits earned for the previous 12 months does not meet the criteria in clause 7.12 to maintain the same Membership Level, then, your Membership Level will be adjusted to the Membership Level below your current Membership Level.

and

7.11 Members will only be downgraded one Membership Level at a time.

nice card but I thought it would have featured some more of the purple color they have changed to. Looking forward to Platinum as I already have more than 1500 SCs and don't re- qualify till Nov 2012... I check the platinum section of the Velocity website almost every day......

Last week I flew Virgin Australia from Brisbane to Sydney.

I had checked in online so just went to the counter to get my 2 bags tagged, both were around 9kgs.

My timing for the lounge was good as it had just opened up the previous day. The lounge staff had just started for their second shift as they had been there for the opening. I had commented that a few friends had taken a look the day previously and the Virgin staff member remembered a few people had come to check out the lounge opening. :p

One word on the lounge, Impressive. :D

Maybe too much beer choice as there was way to many options, the power points in the desk were good idea.

The juice/soft drink machine for me was in the wrong place in the Brisbane lounge, yes I know where it is now but still it should have been next to the bar area.

While I support DJ in their changes I would in no way say their lounges are the equivalent to a QF J lounge, on the basis of food offerings and drinks alone QF beat them hands down, not to mention the reading material on offer or the workstations on offer measured by numbers! The thing that DJ does stand out in the lounge area is their always available Barista!

I would have to agree not much in the way of food choices. Sandwiches would be good but I guess the problem is you don't want someone to hog all the food, where you might have one person fill their plate with food.

That card looks a little too much like a Woolworths everyday rewards card, not that impressed with the colour.

The cabin crew announcements were a bit better polished than my previous flights.

On the flight I was surprised that Live to Air was now available on the whole flight. Fantastic.:D

Most interesting part of the whole experience, I was flying on a Pacific Blue livery aircraft, this is one part of the branding they really need to fast tracked.

I will have to fly Virgin Australia a bit more.

Yes, they are in Pacific Blue colours but are operated by Virgin. It is just to promote them. As you might have seen they have "Airline of Virgin Blue" titles on some aircraft, this is part of the re-branding, these and along with all pacific blue planes will be painted in the new livery soon.

Cheers

You sound just like me...heaps of SCs, Nov review and check Velocity platinum (and ausbt) almost every day.

When will they put us out of our misery!?!? :D

Apparently 24th of this month when it is launched, and you also know whats happening at Qantas on this day dont you ;)

Where are you getting this day from?
This forum, haven't you been looking around Liam? And nice card by the way! But all that trouble has to be done again with a new Virgin FFP card :P. And also remember in the quote given when the BNE lounge opened, the VA ref said: The relaunch is weeks not months away". But that is the strongest date some of AFF's have, but we could be wrong? WE will just have to keep waiting... waiting... waiting.

This sounds relevant to my interests!
Also sitting on a rolling total of around 1500 SCs; looking forward to seeing if that scores me Velocity Platinum :D

WHART?!?!

NO BUMPY LETTERING?!?!

ME NO LIKIE!
I doubt they would have gone to the trouble of doing that, since the relaunch is just weeks away, and they will have to send out brand new shiny proper cards ;)
