...oh dear...I wonder what Borghetti would think about this...very Virgin Blue 2001

YouTube - ‪Sir Richard Branson @ Virgin Australia Flight DJ429 - Toilet Roll Race (July 8th 2011)‬‏

What is wrong with a bit of fun??? I honestly don't get this fun hate, a business can be both professional and vibrant IMO. It makes them more lovable, building a brand-consumer emotional attachment, quite frankly it is a very good technique from a marketing prospective.

+1

When you;
a) Start a up a company and it's successful, you can pretty much do whatever you want
b) When you have that much money, you can pretty much do whatever you want (within reason)

Nothing at all.......in the right context. I've no problems with this either, but one of the reasons I hated DJ when they first started was the 'attempt" at fun.

I clearly remember a FA giggling all the way through the safety demonstration on one flight, embarrassing in the least as she giggled uncontrollably at her own (very) weak puns and dangerous in the extreme as none of us could understand any of this supposedly important flight briefing. That told me that Virgin had yet to discover that fine line between a joke and a disgrace.

Happily, my past two years since making the flip back again, has convinced me they found their footing and now balance professionalism, safety, fun, courtesy, respect and service, rather nicely!

Well when Richard is on-board, he likes to have fun! I don't see it as so bad, everyone seemed to enjoy it, so whats wrong with that?

Nothing wrong with it IMO either.
Also, just throwing it out there to NOOB, When are you going to get the authenticated company rep tag. Its obvious from your posts, and the timing of you joining + your avatar, you are Crazy Daves replacement on here. No problems with that, its great, however no point hiding, because biased views can only be hidden for so long. I may be wrong, but doubt it

Does anybody know about this?

Announcements pending for Virgin Australia - Wings Down Under

Virgin Australia is expected to make the most of Sir Richard Branson's ongoing visit to Australia by disclosing strategic decisions. The Virgin Group founder is in Australia for charity talks, announced Virgin's eucalyptus biofuel project, and is having some mid-flight fun with toilet paper.

Some announcements were due to be released late last week but were held for undisclosed reasons, according to sources familiar with the matter.

I was guessing Velocity Relaunch, but that isn't even in the suggested list.... What does everybody think?

Perhaps he will do something while he is here.

What are the maintenance issues with the A330's?

VH-XFA (XFAwesome) is no problem. But the second aircraft, VH-XFB(XFBroken) is constantly going tech. It's just a unreliable aircraft. Not sure why.

Concorde ... Your observation is interesting, but unless I am mistaken ADL is listed at Noobs location....not sure that ADL is a large DJ base. In fact looking at Noob's posts ask as many questions as answers re Virgin, so I would by surprised if Noob is more than a interested Virgin loyalist. Now I don't know Noob, so am not in any better position to comment, but I do want to make sure that this forum remains a place where we can express our views and preferences without being made to feel that if we show a bias towards an airline we are simply a company rep hiding in the background.

I swear I'm not!!!.....Maybe I should ask for it and make fake announcements  (Fudge the amount of PR I do for Virgin on the net I should be though!)

I'm just biased towards Virgin because I feel they are the better brand as whole, however, I feel 80's Qantas/Ansett is what Virgin should be aiming for - with some vibrant flare, and a bit more 'magic' of course! I miss the Qantas brand dearly, as I feel it already is "Qantas - A Jetstar group airline" :(

Should I change my picture to make it less obvious?

Nothing could be further from the truth mate :D Plus I LOVE your name - If only British Airways let Virgin Atlantic buy the fleet as they wanted! *sigh*

Honestly, I would love nothing more than Qantas to have a major overhaul, and see their name at the next 'Skytrax' awards as "The worlds number 1 airline"

To be honest I thought exactly the same thing.... even went as far to think perhaps you were crazydave under another name...

No issues airing your personal opinion that you believe Virgin is a better brand - Just be careful playing your tune so relentlessly - you will find that you lose cred pretty quickly!

I'm one of the few DJ gold FF's on here who got Gold the hard way - thanks to a nasty procurement person who I'm sure is getting kickbacks from Virgin to make us fly them. I don't think Virgin are brilliannt, but they do the job and have jettonised the silly Virgin 'flair' which has been welcomed. I'm a bit doubtful of their new changes but will reserve judgement until they ALL are revealed.

Biggest thing for me is that Velocity is a waste of time, difficult to use and I spend half my time chasing points. International awards are a joke So for me - most looking looking forward to Velocity being jettonised and replaced with Virgin FF which is actually serious about taking on QFF!

Fingers crossed.

I think it would be very wrong if any company paid people to go "undercover" to promote their brand - I honestly assure you my only remuneration is seeing a brand I love do well.

Virgin have a lot of work to do to get their frequent flyer program and international awards up to the standard of Qantas who without a doubt offer the best program in Australia at the moment. Virgin can not compete with Qantas and its One World alliances without further increasing its codeshare alliances and making the frequent flyer system across the alliances seamless, or just join Star Alliance........

I would describe Virgin right now as the almost completed foundations to a skyscraper. Strong, and carefully maintained yet awaiting to be built upon.

Qantas is more like a already built skyscraper whose foundations have been neglected, and hence the building above is starting to crumble. Management's solution is to cut costs even further and neglect the foundations for longer buy patching up the building instead of what is holding it up.

Qantas is the bigger player with a bigger fleet and bigger network, and arguably at this point in time better for the frequent flyer. However, as the the Qantas skyscraper slowly crumbles it will become shorter, whilst Virgin is building theirs and is becoming bigger.
