Now You're Flying Virgin Australia

I understand the minimalist design, but I think it's awful that VAA haven't coloured in the nation's flag. Doesn't show a national symbol the respect it deserves, and flies in the face of the 'Australia' branding.

Maybe I'm making a big deal out of nothing, but I sincerely hope Virgin Australia rectify this before rolling out the livery further.

Yep agree. Virgin Australia should be proud of it's Australian heritage and base - not hide away the flag.

Can anyone reveal whether QF removed the Virgin Australia wrap-around from their complimentary copies of The Australian for Cityflyer services this morning? ;)

Might want to ask that in the QF section :)

Just went to watch glee from last night on Ch10, and saw the new commercial. Looks even more impressive in HD on a big screen.

As of this afternoon MEL security screening had a priority lane for VB business class, premium economy and Velocity Gold pax.

There was a ground staff member at the entrance of the lane to ensure only those pax who were eligible could use the lane.

Yes they did in Melb :)

PS why did Virgin use 'miles per hour' in their advertising? Did they cut and paste it from Virgin America ;)

Yes they did in Melb :)

I noticed the paper at work had a wrap around on the business section as well - so you would have to pull the paper apart to remove that...
or perhaps News did a special run for QF without the wrap around(s).

Having previously worked in the industry for many years, it's standard practice for holiday companies to advertised prices based on a twin share. It's not intended to discriminate but rather make the price appear 'better value' and besides, most who elect to view hotel rates through holiday operators (as appose to corporate hotel rates) are genuinely traveling as leisure travellers and less as a single corporate traveller like yourself.
I am actually a single leisure traveller not a corporate traveller.

Does anyone in the know have any idea what the seat pitch is on the new 737s?

With business class the config is 168 Y and 8 J for a total of 176. Which, from memory is the same number of seats as you got with the old PE configuration.
I should really pay more attention when they make these announcements but 168Y sounds awfully cramped on a 737 where they have found room for 8 business class seats with 37" inch + a little more in the first row, 37" inch in the second row and a very healthy pitch in the first row of economy.

The current all economy, or premium economy + economy configuration is extremely cramped with 30 rows (180 seats) and they are only going to remove 2 rows and have 2 business class rows?

The FinReview had a DJ advertisement on the front and rear page- handed out freely on QF this morning.

I noticed this today as well, and it was awesome!

One of my pet hates about melb has always been the air-side nothingness, and having to go through security ahead of time because of the time it takes - no more, it seems..

Staff at the entrance were fantastic - a flash of the gold card and it's straight through...

Well I have just used the new priority security in Melbourne and am currently enjoying breakfast in the flybar. I have to say it was great. Especially, being a Friday morning, the time saved was significant.

The queue only had one other person in it - and the staff (including the VA rep at the entrance) were all very pleasant. The only thing that was awkward was the number of glares I got from the many, many, many people in the standard queue ;)

Can I just say - I am impressed with how Virgin Australia staff are transitioning. Of course there are still VB labels on hi-vis shirts, etc but it is impressive how all the gates have had the livery change so quickly. Boarding passes printed on VA paper - all announcements made with 'VA' not 'VB' (though a couple dd say V Australia before correcting themselves!). I know planes and terminal revamps may take a while - but I think they have handled this intial period commendably.

The new colour scheme in the priority check-in and security is very glamorous - I didn't think that purple would work so well.

Again, I think a big congratulations ought to go out to VA and their wonderful staff.

Would also like to give a shout out to Long Term Carpark bus driver who without missing a beat said "First stop is for all International flights, and domestic with Virgin Australia" :)

PS: Lady at voucher desk of The Lounge said she had a sticky-beak yesterday and it i looking goooood :) Can't wait!

Praying that I get incredibly lucky and score one of them new planes in May or June. :)

I don't think you have that slim of a chance.

Aren't there only 2 new planes floating around atm? And my routes don't involve SYD-PER so I won't get to try the A330 (MEL-PER and MEL-ADL). So only 1 B737, unless they rapidly refit quite a few more 737s by then. Hopefully they finish the Lounge refurb at MEL soon at least. :)

Ahhh, its already May... I had it in my head that was a few months away... I'm not sure, I think at the start, the rollout will be slow, but in a few months, I'm sure they'll have most of the aircraft re-fitted.

I hear their new 737 VH-YFC is doing SYD-OOL-SYD a few times on Saturday, I have my fingers poised waiting to book a PE seat if thats true... Waiting to hear if it really is...

The second new 738 VH-YFE is on it's way (Believe it's being painted in the new livery after being delivered from Boeing in white).I have also heard that YFC is doing BNE-SYD-OOL tomorrow.

Cheers

I saw the ad last night and was impressed.

The only point I'd like to have seen was a new shape Jag XK used rather than the older shape. In fact I'm surprised the ad agency didn't talk to Jaguar about using a new XJ for the ad since Jaguar itself are undergoing such a massive update from fuddy duddy to new at the moment with some classy designs.

Interesting...I would be keen to give it a try as well. How do we find this info out?
