re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

I may have thought the sky was falling earlier... Also I did find some good dates to redeem over Christmas but I'm currently about 30k short to make a redemption. ( I can share those with anyone if they want to PM me ?)

However I think I will just be patient and try to accrue the 30k points and the extra 140k points to make the suits redemptions when I was originally planning (August/September 2018). Hopefully the new suites fit-out will be available and we will have about $1500 AUD I think.

Whilst I would have preferred to save the points and spend the dollars. I do hate the winter here in Melbourne and would prefer to take my holiday then.

You do know that once ticketed you can change a flight date? Not sure if this will work for you but is an option.

12 months ticket validity from ticket issue date. Doesn't appear to work for Dannyism's dates.

So if issued by March 23 , has to be used by March 23. So since we can only book out till just a little under that date it will not be that useful to most in this particular circumstance if I have understood you correctly.

But if you pay the re-ticketing fee doesn't the 12 months start again?

Interesting idea.. I see where you are all coming from. However if the 12 months doesn't start again I will still have to fly by ~march 2018 so that won't see me through to around August 2018.

I actually just had some CC bonus points come through today so I do have enough to book EU over Christmas 2017/2018, however the dates I found last night were half F and half R, so again, I dunno, I was hoping to go all R. Possible the new A380 fit-out will be rolled out by mid 2018 too. hmm.

Yes, but it will take on the new enhanced award rates if reticketed past cutoff so not only will you pay the new award rates, you'll also have to pay the reissue fee.

SQ's rule for award tickets is:

All award tickets are valid for twelve months from the date of the first flight as ticketed

So if you book a ticket for travel on 20 January 2018, the ticket is valid to 20 January 2019.

Yep that was my experience and the way I got around the 3 year expiry of points to take a flight closer to 4.5 years after points earn (+6 months by extending, +11 by rebooking). However have no experience in regards to Gold Members comment regarding repricing. I've never had a ticket repriced but then again I'm not sure they would ever have needed to.

Right.

At least the cancellation fees are so low that we don't have much to lose by trying.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

So if I book a seat today, I could change the date only in say 3 months time to another date and as long as it's same departure, arrival, class and award rate, then it's ok and wouldn't be repriced to new rates??

It's a workable theory. But I don't know how we'll get a guaranteed answer.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

just called to make a booking for year end travel..mel-sin-hkg and been told if the destination and class are the same, and only dates changes, there will be no charges at all..but need to be ticketed by 23/3, so it wont be affected by the new redemption rules..

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

I don't mind the change too much.. I understand most of the concern is that no one wants a change to the negative.

For me, as long as the availability continues pretty much unchanged, I think it still remains one of the best air services / programs for redemption tickets

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Looks like the Star Alliance chart will be my good to with Singapore Airlines. Wonder if I can pay the $100 for a stopover on a 1 Way Star Alliance flight using Singapore with a partner airline.

I think this is what I'll try. We want to travel late March 2018 out in J and home in R, but under the new chart it'll be J both ways as I don't have enough points.

thanks for the clarification!

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

if you can, find a date to confirm the ticket before 23/3, and when your desired date open for booking, call to amend it.. and your ticket will still be based on the old rules, provided you are only changing the date, not the destination or cabin class

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

So it only needs to be ticketed prior to 23/3/17, it doesnt need to be a ticket for travel prior to 23/3/17? I ask as some well laid plans are having to be brought forward for 3 family members who arent 100% ready to book, and by no means understand how this award system works... hence I'm doing it for them. If I can get them ticketed on approximate dates (say, April / October / November / December 2017), then I could shift the dates relatively OK?

I know there is a chance they wont, so will be as accurate as possible, but is that my best option?

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

to get the confirmed answer, it's best to call them.. im just sharing what the agent told me, so don't hold my word for it.. the agent are very helpful as I asked her a lot of 'what if' question..

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Interesting strategy. Thanks gold member and others.

I will discuss with my SO and see if I can get the 'ok' to try that strategy...

Perhaps it will be tricky moving two one way segments MEL-SIN-LHR//ZRH-SIN-MEL but worth a shot!

So this will be my strategy. I want to travel in August or September 2018 (the segments above in A380 R). I will book the flights for any available dates in March 2018. Then when August/September 2017 rolls around, I will request the date change to same destination and cabin class 2018. All I will pay is a small change fee.
