Oman Air planning to join Oneworld in 2024

In June 2022, it was announced that WY would join OW early in 2024. As far as I can ascertain, there has been no public progress announcements on the deal. I recently contacted WY for an update, but they were unable (or unwilling) to provide any additional information. I am planning a trip to Europe ex BKK on WY early 2024 and wish to maintain OW connectivity. Does anyone have a foot in the door with OW HQ for an update ?

There will be at least 3 months' notice prior to joining. I would expect around April but things can change.
WY are part of all the oneworld meetings taking place around the world, including the 'why is this project taking so long' oneworld-wide upgrade rollout.

Expect fares on WY to INCREASE as soon as they announce an official date.
There may be a limited window to cash in on the WY low F-fares AND favourable status credit earning assuming QF aint being d....

Knowing QF, they will.

Would it be safe to assume that tickets booked prior to the official date won't earn SCs or TPs with WY or would they honour all existing bookings? 🧐

The ticketing date hasn't mattered in the past from my recollection. Similarly, when an airline exits the alliance, the ticketing date also doesn't matter.

What matters is the date of travel and we don't have a confirmed date for Oman Air joining oneworld as yet.

Which suggests at least 3 + months away .....

Has anyone flown Oman?

Yes, twice, Bangkok, Muscat, Frankfurt return and Bangkok, Muscat, Frankfurt, Muscat, Kuala Lumpur.
Can’t fault them, except they have green chillies in the lounge that looked like green beans……
Lounge in Bangkok is small, but has a reasonable selection of food and drink.
We will happily fly them again, even more so when they join One World and I would like a stopover in Oman one day.

A few times and their J product is one of my favourites. Have absolutely loved my flights with them but my only real issue with them is I’ve found their customer service almost non existent and if there is a cancellation or other issue their call centre is hopeless.

Interesting thanks - and you have flown a lot of J!

Oh no! That is hilarious. Avoid the green beans 😉

Looks like a good addition to oneworld then.

I ask because it was thrown up as an option for a conference I’m flying to, but I only want to fly them once they are in… so hedging a little…. Might play it safe and use Emirates under a QF code.

Compared to many on here my J flying is minuscule 🥲
Domestic is mostly J on QF thanks to work but we prefer VA out of our own pocket as we travel quite a bit for family and sporting events.
These days we only fly J OS and I’m not wedded to any airline and actually like trying out as many as possible. As a rule we holiday in SEA 2-3 times per year for about 2 weeks each time and with family in the UK we we do a big trip to Europe every 4 years for 6-8 weeks and then every year or two we head over that way for a short holiday. We have tried a lot of J products and found some gems like Oman but funnily enough I’ve never flown with a US carrier 🤣

I’m looking at buying business class flight SYD-MXP on Oman Air for next Aug return Oct 2024. Does anyone have any idea if it will be part of one world by then
