Hi... enjoy your info letters. Waiting for Qantas to bring out companion business class fares to Europe.

In my opinion including a Caribbean stop like AUA on one of these award tickets is a bit of a waste. I reckon you'd be better off doing that as a side trip.

Starting to think that too

you can always include a side-trip in one of your stopovers by paying for the one-way flight from the stopover city to the destination and using the OWA to fly out of the side-trip city and then onwards

Hello,
Enjoy all the travel guns and their knowledge on this forum. Learnt enough to get into trouble.
Looking at a OWA trip late 2016 and have been trying the planner but not having much luck.
Fairly simple itinerary something like this (still planning)
SYD/BNE-DXB-STOP
DXB-LON/CDG/similiar-STOP
LON/CDG-NYC-STOP
NYC-DFW-STOP
DFW-SYD/BNE

I will be touring around on the stops but if someone can point out what I am doing wrong, would be much appreciated
I understand I have to book through QF on the telephone, but would like to finalise something before I call and sound like a nong.

Thanks all

Thanks

Depends on what the problem is your having. The first problem I can see is probably your routing through DBX. Those flights will be on emirates and therefore not eligible for the OW Award as they are not in OW. Also the DFW-SYD leg is very hard to get a seat on.

QF1 SYD -DXB or Q9 MEL-DXB will solve the first problem

DWF to SYD is indeed hard, probably more luck with LAX or SFO

another shortcoming I can see is that you underutilise your stops only getting 4

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Thanks for the replies
I get routed to SYD from BNE and get QF1 SYD-DXB so it's not that
The problem I am getting is when I try and stop at DFW and then fly to LAX then SYD/BNE the error comes up you will have to cross across to another terminal cut down your sectors error 1000!!!!
I hope this helps

Not really

the number of sectors overall is less than 16 so you're ok. The mileage should be under 35K though I haven't check but your itinerary is fairly straightforward so it should be

not sure what the error is about however the QF search engine is full of bugs and you are very unlikely to be able to do your booking online, it'll just crash. Be prepared to do it over the phone, just feed the agent all the flights and dates and be prepared to be charged 3500 FF points per passenger for the privilege
There's some anecdotal evidence that the charge has been waived as you can't book it online but when I did my bookings I had to pay it - the guy said "sorry it's the policy, pay up you cough" or something to this effect and I did

I've had the fee waived twice in the last year (once for friends and once for me). On both occasions the QF site couldn't make the booking.

On both occasions I have rung with the exact dates, flight numbers, times, start and land airport codes, etc to show that I have indeed done the research and tried to book online. On both occasions I have told the agent when they first answered that I have tried to book it online twice and it keeps throwing an error (and give them the error code/message).

If that doesn't work, say you will try to book online again and then HUACA. Repeat.

JV;)

Hi Everyone

My first post, so forgive my amatuerish lingo. Making a late decision to take the family (4 adults) to Europe from mid Dec15 to mid Jan16. Want to spend time in both Ireland and Italy for family reasons, but we don't really care where we land or return back to SYD from. Have 500,000 pts with AMEX and 250,000 with QFF, and am a QC member etc, but not really loyal to any airline. Looking for some advice on how to reduce costs by using points, and also picking the cheapest airports/routes. Sorry its such a broad question, but just starting to look into it, and any help or direction from the experienced FF community would greatly help
. Thanks

What Class? Y (economy) or J (Bus. Class), it would be very difficult to get 4 x J seats near a year out, so booking award seats that close in would be near impossible, I'd be thinking more like buy Y/PE fares to an ASIAN port like HKG then OneWorld award seats out of there to Europe, much better chance.

Y class. Thanks for the advice. I was looking at Cathay to HKG. I will try and see if any FF seats are available out of HKG. Thanks

Also check out other OneWorld airlines like QR & FIN. Join BA its free and look up (OW airlines) award flights there out of HKG, some are phantom others are not. CX Fanfares are out each Tues. 10am Qld time, can be some real bargains in Y to various destinations.

4 x Y seats is possible for sure. Remember the golden rule with these awards - be flexible. Your problem will most likely be your date restrictions.

Hi all, am doing some flight planning and was wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to change a transit city to become a stopover on an existing part of a RTW booking? ie. if I've currently got the booking NRT-xHKG-PER with CX, can I call up Qantas and change the NRT-HKG flight to a few days earlier, but not lose the seats I've already got on the HKG-PER leg?

Yes - all you need is availability on the earlier NRT - HKG flight

This will depend on whether your NRT-HKG and HKG-PER segments are married segments. If they are married segments then the system may not let you break the segments up by inserting a stopover in HKG.

Thanks for the quick reply (and vetrade also). Do you know if it's possible to check if the segments are "married" when making the original booking (which I'd do through the QF call centre)?
I thought CX generally had more availability for individual segments in/out of HKG and a less for transiting, which I'd hoped would work in my favour.
