Hello all.

Just adding a positive, success, data point to the thread.

Booked, in J:

SYD-HKG (stopover) -BKK-AMM-DOH (stopover) -LHR (destination, open jaw) -CDG-AMM-DOH (stopover) -HKG-MEL-SYD.

280,000 QFF points, every leg in Business, in a peak period.

What is an "open jaw" ??

I used "Open Jaw" as a way to indicate a "surface segment", because usually if I say "surface segment" people don't understand what that means.

Of course, Open Jaw typically means per Wikipedia's definition....

What kind of fare is this and how did you book it? I'm intrigued.

Nice one, how much in cash co-payment? Which carriers are you on besides QF? Also interesting to see you got HKG-MEL-SYD instead of HKG-SYD, was that due to availability during a peak period or other reasons?

It was a "Classic" style award, so there's no co-payment.

On CX, BA and RJ along with QF.

Taxes came to a thousand bucks, and HKG-SYD had zero availability on the days the travel had to happen (curse you, popular engines-falling-off-A380!) due to peak period travel.

Took 3 hours of research using "popular online tool for Flyers who are Experts" plus 2 hours, over three international calls, on the phone.

I believe the question about "co-payment" was referring to "taxes".

Note that on such routings, often more than ½ the "taxes" are made up from airline imposed "Fuel Surcharges" so co-payment is more apt.

I'm looking to book in 2 first class rtw tickets for my honeymoon.

Was just wondering what suggestions people may have on potential route plans so that we can experience a really wide variety of carriers during the trip with the best first class offerings on the routes we fly? Obviously the partnership with emirates will put some more options in the table there?

Be interested to hear what have been your best first class flights

Is anybody else finding it impossible to book this award online these days? Been getting the "We could not find fare for the requested itinerary (5685 UI)" error on virtually every attempt, with various routings. Had no problems a a couple of months ago.

I had this same problem 5 years ago and 3 years ago so not really a new issue.

I did a dummy booking 26/9 and it worked fine - its only when i try and put TOO MUCH in that it throws up that error

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

Hi,

Can anybody tell me how many Qantas FF points are charged for changes to an itinerary, and also what the cost in points is to book by phone, rather than online.

I did confirm with Qantas that it was possible to book the first leg (Melbourne to Paris) of a 140,000 oneworld award, then the rest later (as couldn't be booked for 2 months yet). I just can't remember how many points it will cost.

Thanks.

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

You'll probably have to book a lot of dummy legs after that to achieve the fare rules/minimum two non-QF airline requirement for the ticket, and then swap them out later for what you actually want to do.

Standard change fee applies of 3,500 points per passenger plus telephone service fee of 8,000 points.

See fee schedule for more info Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

Don't need any dummy legs, can just book as a one way and then it will re price to the Oneworld award when you do the other flights later.

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

Thanks guys. Bunza - your answer is exactly what I wanted to know, great. I assume the number of points are per person, not per booking?

Re: RTW Planning using FF points - Newbie!

I am trying to do a dummy booking for a OW award for a friend. MXP-HKG-SYD-NRT-SYD-LHR-MXP. I am pretty sure this is under the 35000 miles limit, I have chosen CX for MXP-HKG, and BA for LHR-MXP, so I already have the two non-QF OW members; however, it will not price it for me at the OW award rate of 140k points. I get quoted 200k+.

How do I fix this? Am I doing something wrong?
