re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I have booked a one world RTW business awards journey and would like to change a leg from BOS - ZRH on either 12 or 14 July 2013 to fly with Iberia BOS - MAD IB6166 and then MAD - ZRH IB 3464. Seems simple because my Qantas FF screen shows availablity for 2 business passengers on each day. The problem is that when I phone QF FF they say that their screens show only economy availability. They say this is very screwy and strange but have no answer.

I have encountered this problem too and lucky the WP agent was very "on the ball" with this issue. I asked for the specific flights which I was saw available online but agent advised that those were not available. He told me it was a software glitch that happens from time to time, normally with IB and sometimes on AA flights. To prove his point, he told me that if I could book that single sector online and give him the PNR, he would then "transport" that booking into the OneWorld award for me (and refund the single sector booking). Rightly so, the online booking did not work.

IB has been having issues - ther may still be a way.

See this FT post in the QF FT forum from KVS: (Iberia reward flight availability online but not on phone.)

What is a long sell?

You've obviously never read the US DM thread then! ;) Basically where an agent will put in a manual request for the seat and then hope for the best.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Many thanks. Was there avaiability for 2 business seats on July 12 ? I will then take this conundrum up with QF FF operators who have been extremely hepful.
At least 2 business class seats when I looked last night and I could go a fair way through the booking process without actually booking the seats.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Many thanks again for your help with IB.
My last leg involves flying JNB - MEL. There are 3 choices - JNB - SYD - MEL with QF which the only ever seems to have 1 J award seat, JNB - HKG - MEL which has availabilty but takes 9 hrs longer and JNB - PER - MEL flying codeshare SAA to PER.
Another conundrum !!
I booked the oneworld J 2 person RTW online and it allowed me to book the JNB - PER - MEL flight. I want to change the date for this last leg and when I was discussing the IB issue the QF operator could not believe I was able to book on SAA because she said it was not a fully fledged oneworld partner.
Has anyone had experience with using SAA on a oneworld award booking ? Maybe it was just the operator I talked to or maybe I got lucky with the original booking. The difficulty will be that I have to go through QF FF operators to change the PER - MEL leg date.
My second question is whether QF might release a second J award seat later on for QF64. Has anyone been able to book 2 J award seats on QF64 in July or August before?

Unfortunately the rules are quite clear and you were extremely lucky. Non-Oneworld codeshares cannot be booked on a Oneworld award.

What is your status level? If you are WP you can request the seat be released. Otherwise your chances are not good. JV

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I am basic bronze only.

FYI my booking is: MEL -HKG (CX) HKG -JFK (CX) JFK -LHR - ZRH (BA) AMS-LHR (BA) LHR-JNB (BA) CPT-JNB-PER-MEL (BA, SA, QF).

My worry is that I will probably be over the 35K mileage limit if I rebook the preferred date for CPT - MEL with CX via HKG. I may have to delete AMS - LHR but the rules still include the overland mileage in the 35K as far as I know reading the rules.

Any thoughts appreciated.

With or without AMS your mileage is well over 35,000 miles if you try and include CPT-HKG-MEL. In fact if you want to change itinerary to CPT-HKG-MEL then you will also need to remove ZRH as a destination or find a way not to backtrack to LHR.

According to Great Circle Mapper MEL-HKG-JFK-LHR-JNB-CPT-HKG-MEL is just under 35,000 miles.

I believe IB has a MAD-JNB service but even MEL-HKG-JFK-LHR-ZRH-MAD-JNB-CPT-HKG-MEL is over the 35,000 miles.

Seat availability comes and goes more than you would think. If your preferred route is JNB - SYD - MEL then ring every day and ask if the 2 seats are available; you may just get lucky (again).

Absolutely correct but sometimes the system allows it, it did once for me :)

Sent from my iPad using AustFreqFly app

JNB SYD J seats are very tough to get on QF64
It's code share withSAA and very few J seats come up
F is more like likely as QF keep most of these seats
Y+ is a possibility.

Maybe a change made in the system to allow booking QF codeshare on EK flights, a feature yet to be announced? ;)

On the Oneworld award? I would be surprised if this were to happen (JQ flights are not available either) it would no longer be a Oneworld award. Would it?

It could be renamed to the QF partner award.

That already exists and allows all codeshares including SAA and JQ and I see no reason why EK would not be included.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi,

I have managed to book CPT - JNB - PER - MEL as the final leg of my Oneworld RTW Award booking with JNB - PER on SAA. The Qantas FF operator had no issues with this, luckily, and happily booked us in for J.
I am still hunting for a BOS - ZRH award flight for 2 in J between 12 - 14 August, preferably with IB or AA avoiding LHR but the computer glitch showing availability on July 12 when there is none remains.
If I had the choice of joining and using EF or KVS to put these type of award flights on a watchlist to find suitable availability, what would you suggest. Both seem excellent but may have subtle strengths/weaknesses in this area. Your experience and advice would be much appreciated.
