Just tried to change a flight on my upcoming 280,000 one world award and the Qantas agent told me it was unavailable. It showed both on the Qantas and AA website. The flight was with AA.
Should I try again and hope the next agent sees it as I do.

Absolutely, also, which call centre /what time AEST did you call?

I called last nite at 730 and it was the premium line as I have gold status. The gentleman definitely was Australian so Hobart?????

If you get this response again, ask the agent if the particular flight you're looking at is available to book as a new, standalone reservation all by itself. We've had numerous reports in this thread over the past several weeks of members not being able to make changes to an existing reservation when seats have been available, being told that the seats can only be secured on a new reservation. It's a worrying trend.

Thankyou so much

Oh dear, yet another wrinkle.
I am part way through booking my third Oneworld award and have already spent most of the points on AKL-KIX(Osaka)-LHR. Here's hoping the remainder goes smoothly!
For the remaining flights, when looking at dummy bookings, (actual dates still around 12 months away), many of the routes use CX transiting Hong Kong. On a previous occasion this caused difficulties, something about an agreement between CX and the Government making a HKG stopover mandatory, but we will be in a bit of a hurry. Do we know anything about the current situation?

My booking has a 5 hour transit in HKG with CX.

Not sure where I read it, but the CX mandatory stopover seems to get bypassed if one flight arrival before midnight and the departure after midnight (i.e. the date isn't the same) - that could be as little as a 60-90 minute transfer.

If you combine married segment control and a compulsory stopover booking CX has the potential to be a nightmare!

I can confirm this is NOT true.

Has any had a definitive answer from Qantas regarding adding an infant to one of these awards? I've flown J with the little one with both CX and QF, one way awards. CX charged 10% the full revenue fair, QF charged 'fuel surcharges and taxes' both were fairly significant costs especially considering baby doesn't get a seat!

Surely they don't charge every leg within the award as a one-way? I really don't feel like waiting on the phone for 1 hour+ only to speak to a clueless agent at the QFF call centre

Has anyone been able to book CX F from HKG-YVR in the past few months or so?
Availability is non existent looking a year out. This is searching on both QFF and BA.
I know there was some glitch last year for CX North American award flights so I'm not sure if it's related or still going. I literally cannot see any seats.

Dummy booking?

Plenty of HKG-LAX F availability over various months so perhaps just the route you are after is having issues?

So I've finally amassed enough points for 2 x J RTW and want to make sure this itinerary works!

August 2019 - HKG-HND
August 2019 - HND-SYD

April 2020 - SYD-JNB
April 2020 - JNB-LHR
May 2020 - FCO-DOH-SYD

We will be flying to HKG as a positioning flight.

Am I best booking the first leg now and then booking the second leg in July when they become available? And is it an issue that I won't be going "around the world" and instead just using the mileage (34,800 - close!)?

Well I've managed to book HKG-NRT and HND-SYD in November 2019, also JNB-LHR in early May 2020 with a quick phone call last week. Just awaiting availability for SYD-JNB in mid April 2020 on QF and FCO-SYD (regardless of stopover) in early June 2020 on any Oneworld airline.

What are my chances of J availibility on both routes?

Don't like your chances on SYD-JNB in mid April 2020. This is one of the most difficult to get, and you are aiming for school holiday period.

May need to consider an indirect route.
