Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Just wondering if anybody has had problems when selecting seats on a J class award flight, especially Iberia.
Comes up with an error message.
Thought might be a problem with the e-ticket but Qantas re assure that all is well.
Have tried to message them but the response I get we have to wait until check in
Have also tried to try on other one world airline websites but to no avail.

I haven't been able to select seats on our J Iberia flights. I thought that you can't preselect seats unless you pay?
I could be wrong.

Waste of time trying to contact Iberia as they are just lazy and arrogant....I have just returned from flying Iberia in J from J’borg to Athens via Madrid on QF award ticket and I was able to pre select.....think I used Royal Jordanian but truthfully can’t remember....don’t bother ring Iberia as they say only 24 hours before which is BS....I suggest ringing QF in Hobart and no one else and see if they can access the seat map....cheers

Don't like your chances on SYD-JNB in mid April 2020. This is one of the most difficult to get, and you are aiming for school holiday period.

May need to consider an indirect route.

I'd say don't even hope for QF. Look at QR via DOH - and make sure to check positioning to PER or ADL-DOH as SYD-DOH might be under greater pressure. QR would be a far better experience, as well ;).

Agree. Don’t forget Asian ports aswell. Often good availability on QR from SIN, KUL, DPS etc. CX has HKG-JNB direct flights so could be another option

Would this be an issue if the flight starts from HKG though? The eventual trip will hopefully be:

HKG-HND -> NRT-SYD-JNB-LHR -> FCO-SYD

I thought going back to the starting city ceases the award?

Ah, I didn’t see the rest of your itinerary so scrap that

Yes it does as noted above by Jase05.

As you are still waiting for QF to open up, your status must be PS or below. Gold members and above will have had access to premium seats for eight weeks before you so, while not impossible, your chances are slim.

As Johnm suggested, look at QR via Doha. And try to depart early April, well before start of school holidays.

Unfortunately we need to be in JNB around 15-17th April prior to a wedding. Looking at all the availability we aren't having much luck, so I think this leg is going to be in paid Y ;)

Thanks all!

Looks to be excellent J availability on QR ex DPS for most of April and some ex CGK and KUL.
Have you considered repositioning to an Asian port. 6-8 hours in Y to Asia sounds a lot better than 14 plus hours ;)

Hmmm.. just found a possible route:

MH140 SYD-KUL 22:10 - 05:00 9hr Y 12/04
MH715 KUL-DPS 09:00 - 12:05 3hr Y 13/04

QR961 DPS-DOH 00:35 - 05:35 10hr J 17/04
QR1359 DOH-JNB 08:05 - 16:00 9hr J 17/04

Only killer is the taxes and airline surcharges come out at ~AU$800ea.

A bit of a lost cause I think, thanks though :)

QR845 J KUL-DOH 16/04
QR1365 J DOH-JNB 16/04

~24 hours fly time, and it looks like MH140 isn't possible to have without MH715 (KUL-DPS)! o_O
Have you tried
QF41 J SYD-CGK 15/04
QR959 J CGK-DOH 16/04
QR1365 J DOH-JNB J 16/04

One
Ah unfortunately I am only a lowly QF Bronze pleb, so I'm unable to nab the SYD-CGK J

You could always book it in Y to DPS and lock in the QR flights in J, then pay the change fee to J if it's still available at 297 days.

Or wait for the QF to become available and hope that the QR are still there.

Your roll of the dice.

I seem to recall a strategy to get two trips to europe if you begin a oneworld award in asia (and a cheap on way to asia) possibly discussed on pointhacks or this forum.

I.e. hoping to go to brussels in July, return to canberra, zagreb croatia in September (was thinking something like CBR-NRT/SIN cheap ticket, then
SIN- BRU- CBR- (1 month break)- ZRB- SYD if possible

Would anyone have the link to the page? or be able to elaborate? cheers:)

A reminder to those less experienced travelers (like me!) to make sure you get the e-ticket issued asap if making any changes to your Oneworld Award.

Yesterday I rang to add a couple of flights with Cathay Pacific for May 2020 to my Oneworld award that I'm currently building. All seemed to go well & I was told the e-ticket would be issued, the flights appeared in my QFF account all day but no eticket came through.

When I checked this morning sure enough those flights had disappeared along with my first 2 flights SIN-xHKG-AMS with Cathay Pacific in late July 2019  The only flights I was left with was AMS-xDOH-PER with Qatar in late August 2019, given what I've read on here I was lucky those didn't disappear as well

Checked online and sure enough the Cathay flights for July 2019 were not available to re-book. Tried a few other combinations around that day with various destinations around AMS, TXL HAM etc. Could find availability with British Airways & also a Qatar option. Then I tried Finnair and found availabilty for SIN-HEL, HEL-TXL, which is what I've booked but it does use an extra Stopover.

Used the call back which was better than being on hold for 1.5hrs like I was on Saturday. Managed to get everything booked (the May 2020 flights were still available) & have an 081 e-ticket number for U class seats. The updated ticket info came from [email protected], is that the correct email once you make changes to an award booking?

Still got one more leg to book back to SIN in a few weeks, hopefully that will be a little less stressful!

If you do a surface sector, I know the miles are counted. But are both cities counted as stopovers?
