Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

If you can get Q-suite suite on QR then you really can't get any better.

However if your flight is originating in HKG, in my experience, be aware the QR planes HKG-DOH are older and the seats of an earlier generation in 2:2:2 layout (avoid row 4) and there are better "hard product" options in J out there. The soft product however was superb (service, food etc)

While the flight time to DOH is less than 9 hours, both QR flights are evening/night time as far as I am aware

My vote would also be QR particularly if you are on a route with Qsuites. Did JAL a couple of months ago JFK-HND and although good didn't compare with QR.

Thanks, looks like QR might be the go then. Just hoping for good MUC-DOH-SIN-SYD or MUC-DOH-SYD availability as two legs have QSuites - fingers crossed!

Flight is in two bookings:

SYD-HKG

HKG-NRT-SYD-JNB-LHR -> MUC-DOH-(SIN)-SYD

Second portion can't go back to AU via HKG until after Sydney as it originates in HKG and I want to be able to get home :)

Of the airlines flying between Europe and AU (ie. QR, QF, BA, JL, MH), who has the best product? I'm flying next May and availibility will be opening up over the next few days.

Unfortunately CX is off the table as I'm starting the trip from HK.
Why is CX off the table?

Which class?
F is only available on QR, QF and BA.
You may have difficulty finding QR availability.
"Best" is dependent on what you value, because all 3 are good.

How does the lounge in concourse B compare to the north and south lounges in A? I can't imagine it could be worse or more crowded?

B has only got a J lounge, but otherwise the same as north and south in A.

If I have a booked trip at the business class 280000 and then request an upgrade, as usual, to first and it is granted does that cost 140 000 to bring up to 420000 as I have a first class leg ?
Apologies if this is a blindingly obvious and daft question

I don't think you can "upgrade" a points redemption flight - it would be rebooked and as the One World Award prices against the highest cabin booked, then yes the whole itinerary would be 420,000. Whether an upgrade at the airport is a possibility (other than an OpUp of course) and how that would be treated, I will leave to others to comment.

Tried to get seat selection done:

Cathay: online
AA: online

IB: unable
BA: went to charge me 135US
JAL: could only do a preference window/isle

QF: online

I had a similar problem with IB website but found I could bring up my booking in the BA website (even though itinerary doesn't include BA flights) and could successfully allocate seats on one of the IB sectors (MAD-RAK) but not the other (SJO-MAD) which seems a bit random.

Yeah tried that- is a bit random hey!

My final leg on JAL to MLB gets in at 10pm,
fly out QF MLB to CBR the next morning

Any know if I'd have a chance at sleeping in a lounge on arrival/ for my departure the following morning? (would be willing to if so to save the $200 for half a nights sleep)

I did it years ago (10+) on a OneWorld award in J flying QF even though the rules said it was not doable. At that time it was treated like a normal upgrade. Once the flights were ticketed I submitted the upgrade request and it came through. Let us know how you go.

Hi All - have been following this thread for years and I believe this has been discussed, but unsure if definitively. TL;DR - can you merge PNRs into one oneworld classic award?

I'm hoping to use a oneworld award to get to the Tokyo 2020 olympics, with the ticket commencing in Manila in 2019, thus needing to add the July/August 2020 flights when they come online. Flights in and out of Japan will be hot property, thus I want to be able to book them as soon as they come online. Has anyone been able to add subsequent flights from a different PNR into a oneworld award? I'll also email Qantas to ask, but would be more encouraged by actual examples of success.

Merging PNRs is not something I've ever come across.

In any case, yes you can make changes to any classic award - if you read carefully, to add additional segments you need to make a change to the award. That is the strategy that has been mentioned throughout almost the entire thread.
