Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Yeah it seems buying a separate flight ticket via Qantas in January will cost me at least $2k. I have enough miles to do SCL-LAX and then LAX-SYD-MEL so I might have to do that. It looks like they only release Economy seats for these routes, are there any business seats available? Also for SCL-LAX it seems I can still book LATAM in December?

Also how much will it cost to change flights? Is it per person, per booking, per segment, etc.?

How many pax are travelling? If it's only you , then you may have a chance but January is always tough.

While you may be able to book LATAM in December, I doubt you will be able to include it in a Oneworld Award after September (even if you book it now). Try doing a dummy booking of your entire itinerary and see if the points max out at 318k.
Changes are 5,000 points per passenger, per phone call. Make all your changes in the one phone call if you can.

hi guys,
I live in SYD. If my oneworld classic originates from PER, do I need to book a return flight to PER? Or does the Oneworld Classic end when you return to the Country BUT calculates the total miles to the originating city (i.e. PER in my case)

My understanding is you don't have to finish in the origin city but miles will be counted from where you do finish back to the OWA origin city. In your example back to PER if not finishing there.

Thanks. I'm stuck in my planning becuase my total miles = 35'116

I have a Oneworld Classic F where i'm splitting into 2 trips. Part 1 is already booked.

Part 1:
PER-DOH-LHR (F/J)
LHR-HND (F)

Part 2:
HND-CDG (F)
CDG-MAD (J)
MAD-LHR-SYD (J/F)

Essentially I'm doing Europe twice using First class where I can. I'm trying to shave off some miles but having no luck.

Part 2
I want to skip MAD and have CDG-LHR direct but can't find anything from BA on Qantas Search
I want to fly LHR-MEL instead of LHR-SYD but no availability at all.
Any other ideas? Thanks guys

edit: Using the British Airways search tool, I can see direct flights from CDG-LHR with avios, I suppose I give Qantas a call about booking those flights despite not seeing it on Qantas?

You have to ring to make additions so you might as well ask if they can see any direct flights. What dates are you looking for?

Alternatively:
  • try using a different browser;
  • use the train?
  • Book a separate ticket on AF using QF points (20k in J)
BTW, how are you getting from CDG to MAD?

Thanks, I'll give them a call.
I included MAD because it seems the only flights I can see to LHR are on Iberia from CDG to LHR via MAD.

Hi, I've got another couple of Noob questions (is there a faq somewhere?)

1. If using a surface segment over say 1 week does that count as 2 stopovers or just one?

2. Can you travel through a city 3 times, once as stopover and twice as transits?

3. I was looking to book MAD-HAV-MAD with JAL tool and it gave the error "Error: The selected itinerary cannot be used due to carriage restrictions. (26810 - 8320)" Can you advise what this might be?

4. I've noticed the JAL search returns plenty of results without the number of seats next to them but when you go to book these it frequently throws an error. Does an error mean the search is displaying flights that aren't available or is it an error with the booking system? I have 0 JAL miles which might cause these issues?

5. Can you search oneward flights on Iberia website easily? My partner speaks spanish and the JAL tool is quite slow to search plus has the inconsistencies explained above.

TIA :)

1. If booking online, a surface sector will count as one stopover; if you have to phone, it will depend on the agent who answers the phone;
2. Yes;
3. You can't include Cuba on a Oneworld Award if you also have a US airline, or a transit/stopover in a US city, due to US embargo: you've been TRUMPED;
4. Seats available to JL's members may, or may not, be available to members of partner airlines;
5. Iberia website has it's issues; use BA's in preference.

My understanding from when I asked about this before was that it was possible if you didn't include any AA flights on your itinerary. Hence using Iberia :) But I guess ultimately I'll get my answer when I phone up and book :P

Have you looked at ORY-LHR?
Most likely way to fly F from LHR-MEL is via SIN, where you could go BA/QF if you can't go QF2/36.
Might have to request seats if you are in a position to do so.
I don't know if they still have the QR A380 to MEL these days, if so maybe DOH is worth a try (CDG-DOH-MEL).

Thanks Jacques!

Yes of course; my bad.

You can include Cuba provided you:
  1. don't have an America Airline on the same ticket;
  2. don't transit or stopover in a US city (anywhere on the same ticket).

By train? Would Eurostar, Gare du Nord to Euston, be a consideration?

I did the reverse rail journey for something different during a DONE4 a few years ago. A very pleasant experience.

I'm on a call with Qantas.
They are saying they can't add my part 2 of my flights because the flights are pass 12 months from when my ticket is issued (however it is within 12 months of my first flight).

I've never heard this before, I asked whether isnt this a simple issue of just re-issuing the ticket? They said they can't do that.

HUCA?

2nd problem mentioned was that I can clearly see Qantas flight availability from LHR-SYD for a week, yet the consultant said they could not see it. What's the deal there..

Hi all,
Was just reading this wiki Oneworld Award (140K/280K/420K) Planning (wiki content) | Australian Frequent Flyer which suggests that Fiji Airways cannot be use as part of a OWA. Is this true? As it appears as a one world member Member Airlines | oneworld

This certainly flips my planning on its head if true! Can anyone please advise?
Yes, that’s correct. FJ is not one of the 13 x Oneworld airlines.

Edit: “Oneworld connect” does not mean a “Oneworld member” unfortunately
