Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Did you get to speak to someone in the HBA or AKL call centre? If not I would keep trying until I spoke to someone from those CCs. If someone calls you if a seat becomes available not only will I eat my hat I'll eat yours too.
I wish i could be so lucky, But im just a bronze QFF, So never get that lucky.
I should note - i have called last week between 6am-8am all but once (first day when i noticed the flight available at 11am).
the last 2 times i was offered a call back (Thursday they plain didnt call back).
And dont worry, im not holding my breath waiting for them to call me saying we have a random seat for you.

Hong Kong have finally given up on Covid zero and are trying to increase vaccine uptake and plan to allow flights from Australia and to UK and France next month. I hope that means those with CX flights in there OWA bookings will be able to take those flights. I changed my CX flights for later this year to QF when I found a suitable replacement. It also allows for more flexibility when planning my OWA for next year.

So a have a somewhat update again.
After trying one more time this morning
i asked if they could just refund my AA flight - Which she said she will, took credit card details to do the cash side, and said i would be refunded 101600 pts for that flight.
(for reference whilst i initially did have a Classic rewards one world flight, it didnt hit the miles to be a full 318,000 pts).
So the JAL Flight that i cannot get an agent to book for me, if i book seperately is only 90,000 pts. And everything i read states it doesnt matter they are on seperate bookings, baggage still gets checked through, and can get the Qantas Desk to print both boarding passes at check in at first flight (BNE).
So am i missing something here, or do i just make it seperate online bookings.

Even if you get your baggage through checked (don't assume that because someone else got it that you will), you are wearing the risk of delays and missed connections. On a through ticket, the first airline will have to look after you and make sure you get to your destination. On separate tix the airline is under no obligation to do so, especially if the second flight is on another carrier.

Having said that, many of us do mix and match separate itineraries, use one way flights or nest itineraries.

Is it a transit in Japan? Haven’t looked in a month or two but pretty sure their requirements were you must have a through ticket booked, not separate itineraries. They also don’t seem particularly likely to relax that any time soon.

Didn’t catch what your route was tho, if you’re stopping there then no worries.

It was just supposed to be 18 hour stop in Haneda airside - so i doubt i would miss the connection.
Its BNE-HND-LAX
I cant find any availability that week at all for Business Rewards to get me from BNE to LAX. But i have the BNE-HND already booked, and when originally booked AA HND-LAX (since route has been canned). Everytime i call Qantas, they are adamant the JL flight i can see has a seat available in the lower 3 classes (eco, prem, bus) on their website, has no seats. and there was nothing they could do to swap it (as in their words, since AA cancelled the flight they should put me on another AA flight, but thus the whole route is cancelled for now)
I usually state to agent, i have that week from Sunday-Thursday to get from BNE - to LAX have they got any solutions, even though the only one i can find is the above - and they cant do that?)

So my plan is to officially ask for the refund for the AA Flight (which they state they have done but i have not received the pts back). And hopefully they can just 'add' a flight to my itinerary (vs swapping it like ive been trying)

You may be right, but sometimes you have to search by splitting the route. Could you have transit points in HNL, IAH, SFO, AKL, SIN - or combinations thereof?
I have looked at heaps of options, even down to a point where as a last resort, i was going BNE-HND-HEL-LAX

But that i think got scuppered after the Ukraine stuff.

And they flat refuse to convert revenue QF to U from BNE to LAX even though it’s an involuntary rerouting?

Sounds infuriating.

Just got another email from QF telling me there are problems with payment for the ticket after spending 3 hours on the phone with them yesterday "sorting it out"!!!

Starting to feel like I should have just bought a ticket!!!!

Longtime lurker like most my dream trip was shattered (covid)and Qantas have since put their points and charges up.

So I now want full value out of my 35,000 miles one world classic rewards.

I want to start my trip outside Australia fly to Europe come back to Oz and have a trip to Asia (Japan,Manila or Kl)close to the end of the 12 months,as a 2nd trip on the one ticket.Getting my full value out of 318k and 35,000 miles.

It doesn’t end there will start my second one world ticket from Asia eg Japan going to USA and S America then home .

So 2 One world classic reward business flying business using japan as a finish for first trip and a start for the next trip. This can be achieved using Sydney as a stopover approximately 9 months.
Ending my first Trip in Japan and starting my next,

example.KL-FCO-MAD-Tel Aiv-(AMM)-SYD-HND then 11 months later HND-LAX-MIA-Peru come home via Santiago or back via USA.

Now I have access to platinum thru my step daughter. Her mother and I are keen to play the system. One of my queries is the 600000 point limit the total she is allowed to be transferred is that from one person or can 2 people give her 600000ea.
So brains trust can you see obvious pitfalls I am aware of most of the rules I don’t think I have broken any, also any tips that will help me out.

Just saw this too!
On hold, wish me luck...
Yep - 5.5hrs later changes made to 1 OWA - old flights removed, taxes calculated, credit card details given, on phone to ticketing team to ticket. Start working through next booking to change, get the flights and then get hit with the Qantas survey - nothing completed fully.

Pretty sick with covid atm and wouldn't be surprised if the flights disappear by the time I call again at 6.30am.

My backup phone got answered and hung up on while on that call - would normally just call back and wait again in the queue but I guess i'll just try tomorrow :(

pretty standard. Qantas isn’t under any obligation to rectify a partner airline’s change in schedule.
This pretty much sums it up, The Call Centre said due to it originally being an AA flight, AA are obligated to offer the next flight, However - due to it being now a cancelled route - that is not an option. So Qantas/ I just have to look for reward seats that are available.
I politely hinted that i dont 'need' to go via japan, it was just the flights i originally found that worked and were available at the time. i could go direct from BNE to LAX, or domestic to say SYD, or MELB, etc and they looked at all of those options with the answer being 'oh there is no business reward seats available sorry, they are really hard to get/rare.

The Dates i need are anywhere from Jun 19th (sunday) Departure, and as long as im in LAX by Jun 24rd (Friday) - early morning (last resort).
With a combination of google flights/flight connections, i think ive attempted every possible transit with 3 flights or under to go from BNE-LAX with no luck (the frustrating part is the general rule is book early to get the seats... well i did that, but the flight got canned leaving me searching this late).

The only saving grace is if i book the flight with JAL - its only a 18 hr connection - so surely the BNE-HND flight wont get delayed that long.

There’s are awards finding services that could probably help you with the complex itinerary. Doing it yourself can lead to aneurisms.
