Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Thanks for the responses!

I tried to do a 2-part OWA once - one to Europe and the other to the US, using a positioning flight to/from NZ, but the system still treated NZ as "Australia".
Yeah, I’m aware of the NZ problem, but I shouldn’t have issues with continents as I’m starting in KUL.

But this one starts in KUL, so you should be able to go in and out of Australia to your heart’s delight, so long as you don’t transit again in Malaysia.
Yep, as far as I’m aware I’m not breaking any OWA rules…

Works for me online...
Unfortunately it does for me too on random dates (in Y though), but there’s no more availability for my specific dates so I can’t do a cancel + rebook.

Which airlines are you flying with?
What are your travel dates and timelines?
KUL-SIN MH618 30/4/2025 J
SIN-SYD QF2 30/4/2025 J
SYD-HND QF25 30/5/2025 J
HND-OKA JL915 31/5/2025 Y
ITM-NRT JL3006 8/6/2025 Y
NRT-BNE QF62 8/6/2025 J

And I’m trying to add:
SYD-MEL QF479 2/10/2025 J
MEL-HKG CX134 3/10/2025 J

I wonder if it’s because CX just loaded award inventory into the system, and it hasn’t updated yet.

Thanks for the responses!

Did you specifically request SYD-MEL-HKG? If so, try requesting just SYD-HKG or MEL-HKG and see if that resolves the issue.

Yep, I tried three combinations:
SYD-MEL, MEL-HKG
SYD-HKG
MEL-HKG

All three couldn’t ticket.

Yeah, I will do that today/tomorrow. I was just wondering if there was actually a potential issue, as generally IME if Hobart runs into a problem it’s not an agent issue.

Just trying to puzzle out the problem - and this is a long shot - was the SYD-HND booked before the KUL-SIN and SIN-SYD?
Ah, I see your angle. Unfortunately no, all those flights were booked at the same time.

I’m wondering if the domestic Japan flights are throwing something off…

I did find some time to call again today - I got to South Africa, who also couldn’t ticket the itinerary (although nothing was said about the two stops in Australia).

Is anyone else getting the "We are having trouble processing your booking. Please try again or contact us if the problem persists. (3006)" error whenever they are searching for a multi-segment booking? It has been going on a for a few days now. Very frustrating!

The QFF login procedure changed a few days ago for me (the screen layout is a little different) and I've also had intermittent multicity flight search failures since. When it has happened, I've had to log out and wait 10minutes or so before trying again.
It seems there's a glitch associated with the login changes which QF haven't sorted yet

This has happened to me over the last few days as well and occurs whenever I use multi-city search and a Jetstar flight is one of the results returned. I have logged a comment via the website with a screenshot however that will likely never see the light of day. Hopefully someone will sort it out soon!

Yep. Same thing happening to me. Any time a Jetstar flight is available in the multi-city query I run, I get the bug and it's not possible to click on anything. Just back to the home page.

Hi all, wondering if you may have experienced about this: Adding Legs to Multi-City Flights: At the Beginning or Middle of Your Itinerary

I called Quanta support about 10 times, and each agent gave me a different answer. I'm still unsure if, after booking 6 flights online, I can add additional legs before flight #1 or between flights #3 and #4. The multi-city tool doesn't allow more than 6 flights, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to modify the itinerary.

I want exploit the capped points (one world award), and secure the long flight first then add leg for the cheaper flights but worry it won't allow the to do that and might trigger re-ticketing.

I see you have cross posted. See my reply in your other post. Basically you just need to read the last four pages of this thread as that answers your exact issue.

As an update to this saga - I’m pretty sure there’s nothing wrong with my booking. I’ve tried many agents and none of them can ticket it, so I’m thinking it’s probably phantom availability or something.

Interestingly, the last agent I spoke to (from Hobart) told me that “my itinerary is technically skirting the rules as I enter Australia more than once even though I live here”.

Since when has starting a OWA outside of Australia been considered “skirting the rules”?

Its not really skirting the rules. Some people probably didn't really process that you can start your itinerary outside of Australia and treat Australia as stopovers. Given that OWA is Qantas' product, it probably wasn't designed with this in mind but hey its valid.

Definitely not a senior OWA consultant. They would've seen these types of itineraries before.

Yep, that makes sense. I’m wondering if I should be less obvious about doing this - I have stopovers in SYD, BNE, and eventually MEL.

I suppose as it’s still technically valid and I’m not breaking any published rules, it shouldn’t matter.

That being said, I ran into similar issues trying to add extra legs in Australia. Something about the computer messing up domestic legs. None of the senior consultants could figure out ehy the computer rejected mine as well despite them counting the sectors, stopovers etc.

Some excellent information here - thank you all.

I have a question about Surface Sectors and how they impact whether a city is counted as a stopover vs a transit. As a example with the following sectors:

1 NOV - FRA LHR
Surface LHR CDG
7 NOV - CDG MAD

In this example is it London or Paris that is treated as stopover?
Or is it both?

Thanks again

Unless anything has changed since my last OWA, a surface sector counts as a stopover in your origin city.

So in your case, LHR is your stopover.
